1. COMPETENCIES:

Quantitative Research Skills:

The Research & Policy Analyst will have a thorough grounding in quantitative research methodologies, understanding best practice in research design, sampling and interpretation and presentation of research results. Has expertise in effective questionnaire design, and the analysis, presentation and interpretation of survey results. Please give an example (in not more than 250 words) of how you have demonstrated these quantitative research skills.

Analysis Skills:

The Research & Policy Analyst will be required to undertake a range of analysis on large datasets using SPSS. A high level of competence in data cleaning, database design, and report generation is required, as is the ability to work independently on one’s own initiative.

Please give an example (in not more than 250 words) of your experience managing large datasets using SPSS, including generating reportsand interpreting the findings.

Management & Delivery of Quality Results:

The Research & Policy Analyst willrequired to prepare research reports for publicationand respond to requests for information from stakeholders where accuracy, clarity and attention to detail are of critical importance. The Analyst will be committed to achieving high standards even in pressurised or difficult conditions. They constantly develop their own skills in order to improve standards of performance and sets high standards for others and strives to ensure that these standards are met.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills

The Research & Policy Analyst is required to present detailed information from quantitative research studies, secondary research papers, and sensitive data from collision datasetsaccurately and in a clear and user-friendly manner to inform a wide range of stakeholders both internal and external to the RSA. While technically competent inthe analysis of research data, the analyst will also possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and an ability to translate the core messages from research studies to a broad audience.

Academic & Social Research:

The Research & Policy Analyst is interested in and has experience of social research, in particular the application of social research to inform public policy. Is interested in developing their knowledge by reading and reviewing secondary research. Will have an affinity with academic research methods, principles and practices, and an interest in developing their knowledge of road safety research.
