- Why is there a Volunteer Bond?
- Many of our Association members are unaware of just how much volunteer work and fundraising is necessary to operate a quality hockey program for the kids.
- The decision was made when it was realized that some families had to take on multiple jobs/tasks because no other families would step forward to help.
- Who decided we needed a Volunteer Bond?
- The Association Board of Directors made this decision.
- How much is the Volunteer Bond for the Community Hockey Program?
- $300.00 per family; per year
- How much is the Volunteer Bond for the South Calgary Hockey House League?
- $200.00 per family; per year
- How much is required to earn my bond in the Community Hockey Program?
- With regards to the requirements for volunteer bond fulfillment, “Association Approved” volunteer roles and expectations can be found in the Association’s Policy & Procedure Manual.
- How much is required to earn my bond in the House League Program?
- With regards to the requirements for volunteer bond fulfillment, “Association Approved” volunteer roles and expectations can be found in the Association’s Policy & Procedure Manual
- What is a “Full or Partial Credit”?
- Each volunteer job is assigned a “Full or Partial Credit” based on an approximate number of hours it would take to complete the task.
- How much is a “Full or Partial Credit” worth?
- Refer to the Appendix section of the Association Policy & Procedures Manual for a further breakdown of each “Full and Partial Credit”. The manual can be found through the links in the Volunteer Bond tab on the Association website.
- What roles are available?
- The official list of Association Approved Roles is listed in the Appendix section of the Policy & Procedure Manual; which can be found through the links in the Volunteer Bond tab on the Association website.
- Additional opportunities may come up throughout the year that may be posted on the website, and/or emailed to our Association members.
- I have a skill or service that I can offer to the Association in lieu of my bond. Who would I discuss this with?
- Contact the Director of Volunteers at
- I don’t want to volunteer or I’m really busy, do I have to volunteer?
- No. You can opt out of volunteering. Just submit the Volunteer Bond Agreement Form, along with a $300 cheque dated for today’s date (or in the case of the House League: $200) and submit it to the Director of Volunteers. Your cheque will then be cashed.
- The Volunteer Bond Agreement Form can be found on the Association website under the Volunteer Bond tab.
- Can I “Opt Out” at the time of Registration?
- No. All members are to bring a post-dated cheque to their first evaluation and submit the post-dated cheque and Agreement form at that time.
- I “Opted Out” at the time of Evaluations and now I’m volunteering. What happens?
- Please notify the Director of Volunteers to ensure that what you have volunteered for is an actual “Association Approved” role.
- If it is an “Association Approved Role”, you will receive a $300 registration credit(or in the case of House League $200 registration credit), for the next hockey season; a refund will not be issued.
- I don’t skate but would love to help out, what can I do to help?
- Review the “Association Approved” roles for the many off-ice opportunities. The list can be found in the Appendix section of the Association Policy & Procedure Manual through the links in the Volunteer Bond tab on the Association website.
- We don’t really understand the game of hockey, how can we volunteer?
- Review the “Association Approved” roles to find many non-hockey related essential roles. The list can be found in the Appendix section of the Association Policy & Procedure Manual through the links in the Volunteer Bond tab on the Association website.
- I don’t want to give the Association a cheque for the bond.
- The Volunteer Bond is a mandatory component of registration with the Association, for all members, and does not in any way exclude families from volunteering with their players’ team(s). Volunteer bond cheques along with the Agreement Form will be required at the time of evaluations.
- The Association reserves the right to carry forward the outstanding balance for families that have not met the requirements of the Volunteer Bond Program; as per the Policies & Procedures.
- Families who have not fulfilled the requirements of the Volunteer Bond Program would be defined as ‘Members not in Good Standing’ in the Association Policy & Procedures Manual.
- If I do not fulfill the Volunteer Bond as mandated by the Association, will my cheque be cashed?
- Yes
- If I am only able to complete a portion of the bond, will you still cash my cheque?
- Yes, the full amount will be deposited. This is not a pro-rated program.
- There are no more roles on my team. What else can I do?
- The Association has many opportunities that benefit the entire Association. Review the “Association Approved” roles in the Appendix section of the Policy & Procedure Manual through the links in the Volunteer Bond tab on the website.
- I know a person that is doing 2 roles that qualify for the Volunteer Bond (E.g. Coach on one team & Assistant Coach on another); this is not fair.
- Some of the roles of the Association require people to be “qualified and approved”. There are certain certifications and requirements that must be met according to the rules of Hockey Calgary. Therefore, in certain situations it may occur that one person is filling two roles.
- Who is tracking my volunteer bond?
- YOU are responsible to report your own volunteer bond requirement to the Association.
- The “Volunteer Bond Credit Form” is available from the website and MUST be used to record your volunteer credit.
- The Credit Sheet must be submitted byFebruary 1, 2016.
- If an Association Approved opportunity presents itself between February 1, 2016 and March 31, 2016, volunteers MUST inform the Director of Volunteers of their intentions to volunteer; by February 1st. Their volunteer bond credits will then be listed as PENDING and the $300 cheque (or in the case of House League: $200 cheque) will only be cashed if they DO NOT complete their volunteer obligation.
- Who do I talk to about volunteer opportunities?
- Email our Director of Volunteers at
