Job purpose and major tasks

1.  To manage all fundraising and stewardship activity for all gifts to the RCM up to £500 (cash and in kind), and ensure the smooth running of the RCM and RCMJD Friends programmes

2.  To manage all relevant activity related to RCM Alumni and current/ex-staff

3.  To manage the RCM’s Restore A Score programme and other targeted fundraising appeals

4.  To act as the main point of contact within the Development team and the RCM more widely for the

Raiser’s Edge database, including production of donor and financial reports and Gift Aid claims

5.  To line manage the Development Assistant (Friends & Alumni Relations)

Duties

(i) Friends (RCM and RCMJD)

·  Membership administration

To manage renewal mailings to all current members (Friends of RCM and RCMJD), and to manage processing and acknowledgement of renewals and new subscriptions

·  Marketing and Recruitment

o  Renewal and upgrades

To formulate a strategy and employ initiatives to increase retention rates and encourage Friends to upgrade to higher level of memberships, to make additional donations or to support the College in other ways e.g. through volunteering or legacy giving

o  New members and RCM alumni

To formulate a strategy and to employ initiatives to attract new members to the RCM Friends programmes, including targeted appeals to RCM alumni, specific cultivation activity and working closely with volunteers

·  Stewardship

o  To organise delivery of Friends events such as pre-concert suppers, Friends Summer Party, drinks receptions and Behind the Scenes events, to produce literature and booking sheets for these events, to undertake marketing activity to promote these events, and to oversee the booking process. To assist RCMJD Friends committee to plan their own events

o  To oversee the mailing of each season’s RCM newsletter and Events Guide to all members as appropriate, and to design, produce and mail e-newsletters on a regular basis to all members

o  To oversee the acknowledgement of the Friends in College literature and on website

o  To oversee the delivery of benefits to higher level members including organising special events, mailing of signed opera programmes, private tours of the College and personalised booking for concert tickets

o  To introduce new benefits or withdraw current benefits when appropriate, to ensure all benefits are in line with current VAT and Gift Aid legislation

·  Senior Volunteers

o  To recruit and manage Friends Ambassadors to help promote the RCM Friends scheme

o  To work closely with RCMJD Friends Committee to ensure smooth administration of their scheme, including attendance at RCMJD Friends meetings and events from time to time

·  Other

o  To update and amend all literature relating to the Friends programme, to design new literature when necessary, and to oversee the distribution of the literature

o  To manage annual Friends budget, and support the RCMJD Friends committee in budgeting

o  To work closely with Box Office to ensure smooth running of any priority booking periods

(ii) RCM Alumni and current/ex-staff

·  To provide strategic direction for the RCM Alumni Relations programme, ensuring that it is relevant to all alumni and in line with RCM priorities

·  To work closely with colleagues in Woodhouse Centre and Communications to ensure meaningful interaction with Alumni and current/former members of staff to maximise relationships with them

·  To lead on all fundraising initiatives aimed at RCM Alumni and current/former staff, including direct-mail, e-mail and telephone campaigns, Annual Fund giving and

·  To build relationships with key alumni and staff, using their expertise to further develop the Alumni Relations programme and asking them to give their time, where appropriate

·  To manage a vibrant calendar of events aimed at engaging RCM Alumni and current/former staff

(iii) Restore a Score and other fundraising appeals

To manage annual Restore a Score event and other targeted relevant fundraising appeals, including:

·  Cultivation of new donors and stewardship of existing donors

·  Ensuring that all related literature and donor acknowledgement is kept up-to-date

·  Liaison with internal colleagues and delivery of specific events for donor groups as appropriate

(iv) Raiser’s Edge and Reporting

To act as the main contact within the Development team and RCM more generally for Raiser’s Edge

·  To co-ordinate and chair meetings of the RCM Raiser’s Edge User Group

·  To co-ordinate training of all new users on Raiser’s Edge

·  To provide weekly financial reports from Raiser’s Edge to Finance

·  To provide accurate and up-to-date lists of donors from Raiser’s Edge for use in RCM printed matter and publications, and to maintain an accurate, up-to-date list of donors on the RCM’s website

·  To process Gift Aid claims on a quarterly basis, in conjunction with Finance

(v) Other

·  To work closely with Communications on the production of Upbeat, the RCM’s magazine

·  To co-ordinate the Support Us pages on the RCM website

·  To represent Development on the RCM’s IT User Group

·  To manage the Development Assistant (Friends & Alumni Relations)

·  To undertake any reasonable tasks as requested by the Director of Development

Knowledge, experience, personal qualities and skills required

·  Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

·  Extensive and recent experience of successful activity and results in an Alumni Relations or Membership environment in the not-for-profit sector, ideally for an arts/heritage organisation

·  A natural relationship builder with well-developed inter-personal skills and presence, maturity and confidence to network and negotiate effectively at a senior level both within and outside the RCM

·  Good lateral thinking and an ability to develop creative and robust strategies to engage and build relationships with a wide range of current and prospective donors

·  Demonstrable success in running targeted fundraising campaigns and appeals

·  Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills; a persuasive manner

·  Experience of managing staff and budgets; good numerical skills

·  A highly motivated, tenacious self-starter but also an effective team worker

·  Commitment to high professional standards and a high level of donor care

·  Willingness and ability to travel and work outside normal office hours

·  Experience of using Raiser’s Edge or a comparable relationship management tool

·  Knowledge of music and sympathy for aims of RCM as an educational establishment

Job purpose and major tasks

The role is responsible for co-ordinating all fundraising activity related to the RCM’s Campaigns as designated by the Director of Development. The main focus for this role will be to support the Director of Development in the £30m fundraising campaign for the RCM’s ambitious Courtyard project, the most significant capital development the RCM has undertaken since its foundation. This project is crucial to the future of the College in terms of the facilities it offers its students and audiences, and its ability to maintain its competitive presence in an international arena. The RCM has recruited senior volunteers specifically to lead the campaign, which aims to raise £25m for the capital scheme with a further £5m for long-term endowments for scholarships. The post-holder will also be expected to lead on fundraising for other smaller appeals and projects as identified by the Director of Development. The role carries direct line-management of the Development Assistant (Campaigns).

Main tasks

(i)  Fundraising

·  To secure new philanthropic income for RCM Campaigns, with a focus on the Courtyard scheme, and other discrete projects as identified by the Director of Development

·  To achieve annual income targets as agreed with the Director of Development

·  To work closely with senior volunteers to support them in fundraising for RCM Campaigns; to attend meetings with them and provide administrative support to them as necessary

·  To answer all relevant enquiries and write persuasive proposals for prospective donors

·  To undertake pro-active research into all potential sources of funding for RCM Campaigns

·  To cultivate, approach and ask grant-making bodies, individuals and companies for gifts towards the Courtyard Campaign and other RCM Campaigns

·  To research, develop and write proposals to support the Capital Campaign for major UK and international Trusts and Foundations; to develop strategic approaches to these bodies

·  To implement ways to engage RCM Friends, donors, Alumni, students and current/ex-staff in fundraising for RCM Campaigns through targeted communication and events

·  To organise events to attract new donors to the RCM and raise funds for RCM Campaigns

·  To manage relevant specific fundraising appeals e.g. Britten Theatre seat-naming

·  To manage the production of all print and publicity related to RCM Campaigns

(ii)  Donor Stewardship

·  To manage the prompt processing, recording and acknowledgement of all relevant gifts

·  To manage regular contact with all relevant donors about the projects they support

·  To organise all relevant events including donor receptions, fundraising galas, general cultivation and ‘thank you’ events

·  To maintain contact with all donors, including writing reports and proposals as appropriate and where possible to maximise fundraised income

·  To maintain accurate records of gifts and all relevant donor contact on Raiser’s Edge

·  To ensure all relevant donors are duly credited and stewarded

(iii)  General

·  To understand the RCM’s Campaigns fundraising strategy and its wider aims over the next five years, and to be an advocate for RCM’s future vision both inside and outside the College

·  To oversee research requirements for the Development team as a whole, and to train interns, volunteers and other members of staff in best practice using research tools

·  To manage the Development Assistant (Campaigns)

·  To undertake any reasonable tasks as requested by the Director of Development
