Sun Ridge Dress Code 2013 – 2014

PLEASE NOTE: Please see the Student Code of Conduct for district guidelines regarding dress code.

Please also note that black is not a color choice for tops or pants.

TOPS

-  Navy, gold, or white polo style collared shirt (either with or without logo)

-  Navy, gold, or white sweatshirt (either with or without logo)

-  T-shirts (long or short sleeved) must have a logo.

-  Shirts should fit comfortably, and not be tight, excessively loose, or excessively long

-  No more than 4 buttons on the placket for polo-style shirts

-  Other shirts (including t-shirts) from school organizations – football, math club, theatre, etc. – are acceptable

-  Outerwear: Any non-Sun Ridge jacket or sweatshirt must be worn unzipped while students are inside the building

BOTTOMS

-  Uniform Docker-style (either pleated or flat front) pants, shorts, or skorts

-  Cotton twill material in solid color navy or khaki

-  No denim of any color (for example, no khaki colored denim)

-  No skirts. Skorts must have the front panel sewn to the shorts.

-  Capri pants may be worn if they are the uniform-style pants and not excessively tight

-  All pants, shorts, and skorts must be worn at the waist

-  No skinny pants, spandex, corduroy, excessively tight, low rise, hip hugger, or overly baggy pants, shorts, or skorts

OTHER ITEMS

-  Shoes must have a strap behind the heel and wheels on shoes are not allowed

-  Backpacks may be carried. No writing other than the student’s name is allowed on backpacks.

-  Hair: Hair should be trimmed so that teachers can see the students’ eyes in class. Unnatural hair colors, including unnaturally colored hair extensions (blue, bright red, pink, purple, etc.) are not allowed.

-  Any “I love boobies” items may be confiscated.

-  Clothing, even if it is within the other uniform guidelines, that is indecent or suggestive.

-  Make-up such as cat eyes, brown or black lipstick or excessive eyeliner or eye shadow (beyond the edge of the eye).

-  No body piercing other than the ear.

-  Writing on hands, arms, or other visible body parts is not allowed.

-  Contact lenses must be deemed appropriate by administration. Cat eyes, snake eyes, etc. are not permissible.

-  Stud or spike-like bracelets, necklaces, or belts or wallet chains are not allowed.

-  Students are not allowed to chew gum in building.

-  Cell phones must be TURNED OFF during the school day. Any cell phone out and visible during the school day will be confiscated and must be picked up at school by parent, regardless of how or if the student is using the phone. There is a $15.00 retrieval fee as per SISD Board Policy on the second offense and any offense thereafter.

-  Any clothing or item that is distracting and interrupts the learning process is not allowed.

SUN RIDGE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEFT OF ELECTRONIC ITEMS SUCH CELL PHONES, MP3’S AND IPOD’S. THESE ARE HIGH THEFT ITEMS AND ARE BROUGHT ONTO SCHOOL GROUNDS AT THE OWNERS RISK.

CONSEQUENCES:

-  If a student is found to be out of dress code, he or she will be assigned to Friday afternoon detention (3:15 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.). The student will be given the opportunity to change into something he or she has, to borrow a dress code item, or to call a parent to bring the dress code item. (Detention is assigned even if the student is able to change clothes.)

-  If a student is unable, or unwilling, to change into the uniform, then he or she will be sent to SAC for the remainder of the day. The student will also have Friday detention.
