Health issues that affect not only Hungary was the world at large, the role of women in taking care of the health of their families, the situation of rural women, sustainable lifestyles and family models as well as other crucial issues for Hungary's future were featured at the international HEALTH, BEAUTY, SECURITY conference held on June 28, 2012 in Budapest in honor of the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012.

The organizers were looking for solutions with the participation of speakers invited from the government, academic and corporate spheres, international and Hungarian organizations, top participants in sports and cultural life,as well as participants from the widest circles.

Key-note speaker of the Conference:

Dr. Zsofia Pusztai Head of WHO Country Office for Hungary

Honorary Guests of the Conference:

Ms. Fernanda Guerrieri Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Professor Giuseppe TrittoPresident of WABT - World Academy of Biomedical Sciences and Technologies, founded under the aegis of UNESCO.We have also invitedother speakers who have distinguished themselves internationally. We were pleased that our Hungarian special guest, actress Dorottya Géczy, accepted our invitation to participate in the panel discussion, after which she delighted the participants with a surprise production of chansons.

The Aim of the AWCDH’s “Women’s Career for s Lifetime” Project is to raise awareness of the need to support participation of women above 50 in the labor market and to the importance of their role in their families as well, because these women, popularly called the “sandwich generation”, must continue to care for their children on the one hand, and their parents and grandparents on the other. In order to ensure a longer active life it is important to preserve women’s well being, health, beauty, and self-confidence.

Reason for the Conference:

Demographic ageing is a major problem all over the world, but in Hungary the situation is especially

serious. The proportion of older people is growing, and the state of their health is poor. However, since the life expectancy of women outstrips that of men, it is of paramount importance that we draw the awareness of women to the need to continue living active and healthy lives. After all, not only must they look after themselves, but generally, they are also responsible for the health of their families as well.

2012 has been dedicated to the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, so this is a good time to call the attention of the public and the decision makers alike to this serious problem and it is also a fine opportunity for us to look for solutions together.

About The European Year Of Active Ageing And Solidarity Between Generations 2012

2012 is the European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. A chance for all of us to reflect on how Europeans are living longer and staying healthier than ever before — and to realize the opportunities that represents.

Active ageing can give the baby-boom generation and tomorrow's older adults the opportunity to:

- remain in the workforce and share their experience

- keep playing an active role in society

- live as healthy and fulfilling lives as possible.

Active ageing is also the key to maintaining solidarity between generations in societies with rapidly increasing numbers of older people.

The challenge for politicians and stakeholders will be to improve opportunities for active ageing, for living independently, and to concentrate on areas as diverse as employment, health care, social services, adult learning, volunteering, housing, IT services, and transport.

The European Year seeks to raise awareness of the issues and the best ways of dealing with them. But most of all, it seeks to encourage all policymakers and stakeholders to set themselves goals and take action to meet them. 2012 should go beyond debating; it should start bringing tangible results.

Themes of the Conference:

  • Women live longer – women’s employment and careers will be longer
  • Women live longer –but alone – the life expectancy of men is 7 to 8 years shorter
  • Importance of preserving women’s well being, health, beauty, and self-confidence
  • Role of women in taking care of their families’ health
  • Importance of self-care
  • Cooperation between generations in the family and in the workplace
  • Reconciling work, private and family life in different stages of women’s lives
