Information about the APFEI Academic Integrity Grants(2017)

Grant types:One commissioned project on contract cheating (AUD$2000) and two open topic research projects, resource development and/or events (AUD$1000 each)

Eligibility: Both APFEI andnon-APFEI members may apply for these grants, and individual or team applications are welcome – however, the principle applicant must be affiliated to a higher education institution in the Asia Pacific region. Past and current APFEI committee member may apply, but may not be the principal applicant and may not be on the sub-committee assessing the applications. All successful applicants will be made honorary members of APFEI for one year (or one additional year, if already members).

Conditions:It is anticipated that all project activitieswill be completed within a year.

If the grant is to be used to fund an event, this event must include participants external to the host institution, and multi-institutional events will be preferred. Evidence of the event is to be produced for the APFEI website, such as a video recording and/or online resources.

All successful applicants must provide a summary of the project or resources for publication on the APFEI website. They will also be encouraged to present their project at the next biennial APFEI conference or symposium. A project report must be presented to the APFEI committee at the completion stage, and must include receipts and a rationalisation of expenditure. If the full amount of the grant is not spent, the remainder must be repaid to APFEI.

APFEI’s support must be acknowledged in any publication that may arise out of the research project. APFEI’s logo must be used in any promotional material or resources that may arise out of the project.

Selection criteria:Grant applications will be reviewed by an APFEI sub-committee that will include at least

two members of the executive committee. The selection criteria require that the grant application will:

  1. be on a topic that is clearly relevant to current research and approaches to academic integrity education and/or management of academic misconduct
  2. involve an original or fresh approach, that is clearly distinguished from existing resources or previous research and events
  3. Include a rationale for the project, including a short literature review, methodology, timeline and anticipated outcomes
  4. Include a justification of expenses and a detailed budget breakdown

Application procedure:

  • Applicants are to complete the grant proposal application form and email it to the Chair of APFEI, Dr Ruth Walker ()
  • All grant proposals will be considered by a sub-group of the APFEI committee
  • Applicants will be notified of the status of their grant proposal within two weeks of the closing date.
