National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller's Assistant) (Level 2) with an optional strand in Blast Hole/Mineral Production and Development

Level / 2
Credits / 40

Purpose

The National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller’s Assistant) (Level 2) with an optional strand in Blast Hole/Mineral Production and Development recognises the skills of an experienced driller’s assistant in non-hydrocarbon drilling at an onshore drilling operation. The holder of this qualification is able to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures under supervision.

A core compulsory of essential skills related to health and safety, working in the drilling industry, mobilisation of equipment and materials, providing support for drilling, and setting up and preparing for drilling is included in this qualification. A core elective that recognises a variety of skill sets is required due to the diversity of drilling environments.

Core Elective 2 offers a choice of two standards relating to occupational health and safety practice. Core Elective 3 offers a range of standards that relate to drilling methods for the different activities undertaken in the drilling industry to the skill level of a Driller’s Assistant.

The optional strandin this qualification, Blast Hole/Mineral Production and Development, offers standards covering skills for specific industry sectors.

This qualification includes Australian competency standards that are part of the RII09 Drilling Training Package - Certificate II in Drilling Operations. These standards have been endorsed by the New Zealand Extractive Industries Training Organisation.

This qualification is the beginning of a pathway, which continues with the National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller) (Level 3) with optional strands in Environmental/Geotechnical, and Water Well [Ref:1332], the National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Senior Driller) (Level 4) with an optional strand in Water Well [Ref:1333], and culminates in the National Diploma in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller Supervisor) (Level 5) [Ref:1334].

Special Notes

This qualification is a prerequisite to the National Certificate in Drilling - Non-hydrocarbon (Driller) (Level 3) with optional strands in Environmental/Geotechnical, and Water Well [Ref:1332].

Requirements for Award of Qualification

Award of NZQF National Qualifications
Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website:
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
