CALL FOR APPLICANTS
The University of Zimbabwe, Department of Community Medicine (UZ-DCM) together with the Training and Research Support Centre (TARSC), are inviting applications for the Winter School Public Health short course-training programme to be held at UZ Health Sciences Building from
30 June to 5 July 2008.
The programme is aimed at building capacities for people working particularly at district level in health-related work, but who may not have had the benefit of formal training in health. The course thus aims to include people from local government, from health related services and sectors working in areas related to health at district level, from civil society and from community leaders with roles in health. The course aims to build an understanding of public health and of health systems, particularly at district level. The course will cover
- Principles of public health and epidemiology
- Major public health issues, including HIV and AIDS, TB, Malaria, nutrition
- Elements of health systems, health financing, essential drug supplies and human resources for health
- Zimbabwe’s health services at national, district and primary health care level
- Community and non health sector roles in health
The course will involve teaching, presentations and mentored assignments. Certificates of attendance will be given for the course. Delegates will be required to pay a course fee of
Z$300 million. The fee covers the course registration, the course sessions, materials and teas. It does not cover accommodation and lunches which applicants will be expected to organise for themselves. The course fee is payable in full on acceptance of registration. There are a limited number of scholarships for sponsorship of full or part costs of the course.
