Dear Parents

Admissions for Reception 2017:

If you have a child who is due to start school in September 2017 then you MUST apply on-line at www.lancashire.gov.uk/schools The CLOSING DATE FOR PRIMARY APPLICATIONS IS 15 JANUARY 2017 with the offer letter being issued to parents on 16 APRIL 2017. Please ensure that you also complete the ST OSWALD’S SUPPLEMENTARY FAITH FORM (not the LCC form) which is available on the school website or from school. This must then be forwarded to SCHOOL together with a copy of your child’s BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATE BEFORE THE CLOSING DATE!

Please note: If your child was baptised at St Oswald’s and you do not have a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate, then Father Phillip will be available on Thursday 29 September from 2.30-3.00 pm at St Oswald’s Presbytery to provide you with a copy. If you cannot make this time, please complete a Baptismal Certificate request slip, available from the trays outside Mrs Bowe’s office, and we will forward this to him on your behalf.

Secondary Admissions 2017:

If your child is due to transfer to High School in September 2017, then please apply on-line at www.lancashire.gov.uik/schools. The CLOSING DATE FOR SECONDARY APPLICATIONS IS 31 OCTOBER 2016 with the offer letters being issued on 1 MARCH 2017. If you are putting All Hallows as your choice of school, you MUST fill in the supplementary faith form which was issued to parents at the meeting with Mr Riding on Tuesday 20 September at St Oswald’s.

Friday 30 September 2.30 pm in church – Harvest Festival. Please send tins, packets or fresh produce

Coming Up:

World Space Day – Tuesday 4 October:

We will be celebrating World Space Day by having a mobile planetarium in school for the day! Every class will visit the ‘Star Dome’ to find out fascinating facts about the night sky. Thank you to the PTFA for funding the cost of the day!

Y6 All Hallows Taster Day:

On Wednesday 5 October, Y6 pupils will spend the day at All Hallows getting involved with a range of lessons and sampling the dinners! (Letters will be issued to Y6 on Monday 26 September). The Open Evening at All Hallows will be on Thursday 6 October from 6.00-8.00 pm.

Open Morning at St Oswald’s – Thursday 13 October, 9.15-10.30 am:

If you would like to visit the school when it’s in action, please feel free to pop in and see the children enjoying their learning. The morning is for prospective and current parents.

Parents’ Evening – either Wednesday 19 October or Wednesday 26 October:

The sign-up sheets will be available from Monday 26 September at 3.00 pm so that you can book a 5 minute appointment with your child’s class teacher. The focus of the evening is to let you know how your child has settled into their new year group and to inform you of their target areas in reading, maths and writing.

Y6 Leadership Team 2016-2017:

Every year, Year 6 take on many additional duties and responsibilities to help the school run smoothly. Year 6 have to apply for these positions and know they are committed to carrying out their duties to the best of their capabilities. The Head Boy and Girl, as well as Deputy Head Boy and Girl are voted for by the class after careful consideration about the qualities needed for such posts. Sunday 27 November 12.00 noon-2.00 pm – PTFA Christmas Fayre in the school.

Friday 2 December Year 2 Parents’ Assembly – ‘Advent’ at 2.40 pm in the school hall.

Wednesday 7 December 1.30 pm Age Concern Concert in church. The choir will be leading the concert for all our parents and

Grandparents and parishioners.

Wednesday 7 December 6.30 pm – All welcome to come down to St Andrew’s to help switch on ‘Longton Lights’.

Thursday 8 December Infant Nativity play in church at 2.00 pm and 6.30 pm.

Thursday 15 December Junior Christmas Production in school, 10.00 am, 2.00 pm and 6.30 pm.

Wednesday 21 December School finishes at 1.30 pm. (Please note NO After School Club).

And finally …

Hope you’ve all managed to see the new addition to our school grounds, our very own Tyre Park and traversing wall. We used our ‘Awards for All’ Lottery Grant and the children have already really enjoyed using it, we’re sure it will enhance their physical activity every playtime! (We have explained to the children why they cannot use it after school). Next year we will try again for the grant and, if successful, hope to add a fitness park to our facilities.
