An-2 N244MJ

For the many military spotters nowadays that also collect aircraft with a military past, this Dutch based An-2R N244MJ is of interest. This, as it served with the Lithuanian Air Force from early 1992 until re-registered to LY-APF. Then it crossed the big pond in August 2002 and returned to Europe after being bought by ACE Aviation Academy of Groningen in August 2001 and ferried back to Europe across the Atlantic Ocean on bio-fuel arriving in the UK aug10 and seen Teuge 21aug10. (Teuge, 02 september 2011, Joost de Wit)

IL-76TD RA-76483

Very regularly the Dutch Air Force uses aircraft that are not allowed to do commercial runs to the Netherlands due to the noise they produce. However, military jet noise is the sound of freedom where commercial jet noise is the sound of big money so that is why it sounds different we assume. Il-76TD RA-76483 of Aviacon Zitotrans, which is the tenth ! operator of this aircraft, is a frequent visitor on one of the many Afghanistan to Western Europe runs. (Eindhoven, 23 september 2011, Arjan Sleeuwenhoek)

Tu-204 RA-64032

When you run out of 757's to send to Amsterdam you simply use its Russian clone, the Tu-204. Every now and then TNT sends this RA-64032, a Tu-204-100S, which is operated by Aviastar/Tupolev, to Amsterdam. Many discussions state the S should be translated from Cyrillic to the Roman letter C for Cargo and note, Tu-204C is painted on the nose in full Roman characters. However, this is not a mistake but done deliberately to make it more easy for those not able to read Cyrillic. The type is officially designated by the Tupolev design Bureau as Tu-204-100S but branded in the West as Tu-204C. (Amsterdam, 28 september 2011, Martijn Koetsier)

5A-DOA An-26

A more than interesting appearance at Malta on 27 September 2011 was this freshly painted An-26 wearing a civil registration 5A-DOA and a military serial 8207 as well. It is painted with the new Libyan flag and carries Libyan Air Cargo titles. It was also named 'Wadi Jaref' which is military camp In the city of Sirte in eastern Libya which is Muammar Khadafii's birth place. (Henry Spiteri)

An-2 LY-AER RAF c/s marked B-Z'

Antonov An-2R LY-AER was offered for sale in 1999 with t/t 6,530 hours and bought by Thorbjörn Björk and seen in all-black c/s Barkarby 3 june 2000. Its CofA expired 22may01 and was cancelled between 1 may 2005 & 1 july 2006. Aabandoned at Skå-Edeby it sat there for many years at the airfield until someone reported the aircraft as 'found' to the police. Since no-one claimed it, the aircraft became the property of the person who found it!, She was painted in WW-II RAF insignia and the code 'B-Z' on the left-hand side to resemble a Westland 'Lysander' and was f/n as such Skå-Edeby november 2009. (Skå-Edeby 8 july 2011, Gerrit van der Veen)

Near the bottom of the same page on the Soviet Transport database on the Scramble site there is a link to the Soviet Transports downloads page featuring a new illustrated guide to ST construction numbers. It can be downloaded free of charge together with renewed production lists and a list of abbreviations and translations and now, new, a Google Earth KMZ file with all airports in the Soviet Transports database.

The Federal Border Service (FPS) was an autonomous structure within the FSB which ceased to exist 30jun03. Since then all FSB aviation assets are just FSB, no longer FSB/Border Guards.
