Occidental Community Council Minutes – October 15, 2011
PRESENT: Rebecca Aff, Kaye Martin, Diane Masura, Fawn Nekton, Candi Penn, and Mary Szecsey.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Yes.
MEMBERSHIP: Naomi Curtis passed at 87 yrs. old. She will be missed!
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS: “Occupy” events happening all over - Power to the People.
OHC Open House on Friday, Oct. 21st. 4 – 7pm
Halloween Carnival at Salmon Creek School on Saturday, Oct. 22nd, 5–8pm. Parade Mon. Oct. 31st, 1:30pm.
Land Paths Fall Festival at Ranchero Mark West, Santa Rosa, Sat., Oct. 23rd. 11-5pm, $20 Donation.
Kows-a-palooza Halloween Ball. Saturday, Oct. 29th 6pm – 1am. All Ages. $15 Donation.
TREASURER’S REPORT: $11,746.91 Balance.
WEBSITE: Graphics for the Crafts Faire will be posted. Vendor website links will be included.
CRAFTS FAIRE:
Food: Autumn Barber from Aioli in Forestville will provide soups, salads, pasta, and beverages.
Linens will be provided for the tables and she will donate 20% of the net proceeds from food sold.
Building Security and Cleaning: Vernie will be hired. Mark Wiley will be available for help during the event.
Candi will check on raffle tickets needed to be printed. 34 Vendors have applied to sell arts and crafts.
Rebecca and Candi will seek donations from local businesses. Mary will supply the map for vendor
assignments next month, and be responsible for the layout. Dec. 8th will be set up from 3-6pm.
Sound system will be provided by the Penns. Candi will contact Sherry Huss regarding PR notices.
Kaye will put out a school notice in the newsletter re: Bake Sale.
Graphics are done. Postcards and Posters are being distributed, and signs (3 Large, 3 Small)
will be set up at the usual high traffic spots.
NEW BUSINESS: $200 Donation is approved for annual TOYS for TOTS program.
SCHOOLS: The Salmon Creek Watershed Council has met with school principal Rene McBride
regarding the water quality testing program with school kids, probably 3rd &4th graders.
THE “Y”: Jeremy Hodgdon is the YMCA point person for our facility.
The Russian River Area Resources & Advocates group have had successful meetings with the county
to assume management responsibility of the Russian River Vets Hall.
HEALTH CENTER: Open House after the Remodel will be Friday, Oct. 21st.
OHC Emergency Preparedness is continuing organizing and would like to add some communication
equipment, like a Satellite Radio. This could be a project supported by the OCC.
There has been a resurgence of new babies in the area, so pragmatics to enhance prenatal care and baby
care are being ramped up. Breast pumps is a purchase that could be supported by the OCC.
OCCIDENTAL EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS (OEP): The next “Map Your Neighborhood”
gathering will be for the Coleman Valley Rd./Joy Rd. intersection neighborhood.
MYN Harrison Grade Rd. near Stoetz Lane is being planned.
Call OEP at 707 874 3784 to schedule a meeting for your neighborhood.
Map your local resources and hazards. Set up a gathering spot in case of a disaster.
COMMUNITY: Refurbishing of the “Old Timers” mural from the Hardware Store is on hold.
Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday, Nov. 6th – FALL BACK one hour.
KOWS: The Kows-a-palooza Halloween Ball is happening Saturday, Oct. 29th from 6pm to 1am at the Occidental Community Center. Music, performers, costume contest, food, games, arts and crafts. All ages. $15 Donation.
