eScip Online Mall is the biggest potential earner but Carl Munck families are not using it much yet. It is easy to do, no sign ups, just click on the Online Mall logo on the school website before you shop.

Capturing New eScrip Members

This is the one biggest thing we can do to boost earnings from eScrip. We need to host a ‘sign-up’ booth every time we have a lot of parents at the school, e.g. for back-to-school night, walk-a-thon , family fun day etc. We earn almost $2,000 per year from only about 60 members. You don’t even have to be local to earn for our school. Parents can get their extended family to sign up for Munck, anywhere in the country. It should be easy to double our memberships, which will likely double our earnings. That would be $4,000 for very little effort – and the best part, once signed up, people generally stay signed up so it becomes reliable income year after year.

Encourage Current Members to add / update Credit / Debit Cards

Second biggest opportunity is to have more people sign up credit / debit cards to bring in earned percentages from a huge group of retailers. Some people are naturally worried about privacy but it’s perfectly safe. Most people only have their Safeway Clubcard signed up which doesn’t contribute much, around 1% since donations are capped. The biggest earnings come when people sign up their other cards, credit / debit / retail store cards etc.

As the coordinator for the school, you get access to the Coordinator Toolkit. ‘My Assistant’ is a handy way to track your supporters, check that cards are current by reviewing purchase activity. (If there is no activity, it’s likely the card that is registered is old / expired and you will need to inform parents so they can update eScrip to point to their current card.)

eScrip Online Purchases

No sign ups required. Anyone ordering anything online should first go to the Online Mall button on our homepage We need to increase awareness of this program – could be another great earner. Parents can also download a toolbar that will help them to always earn everytime they shop, so they don’t have to remember to click through the Online Mall first.

eScrip Safeway Renewals

IMPORTANT: Safeway registration must be renewed annually (before Nov 1st) so that we keep earning. You can do all the renewals, which is tedious, you have to renew them one by one, but it’s easier than waiting for parents to do it and we don’t lose subscribers that way. Here are the steps:

  • Go to 'My Assistant', click on 'Safeway Renewal' and it will say there 'You have X supporters who still need to renew'.
  • Clickto get the contact list.
  • Keep the contact list open, then go back to the 'Group Home' page and click'Renew to Earn Contributions'.
  • One by one, copy / paste (ctrl-C, ctrl-V)the subscriber id from your contactlist into the Renewal page and hit Enter.
  • You can keep track of how you are doing and make sure you have renewed everyone by going back again to'My Assistant' /'Safeway Renewal'. It should come down to 'zero need to renew'.

eScrip Reports and how to track earnings

The Reports area is useful to see how much is coming in through eScrip so that you can publish that to parents to keep them motivated. Reports are usually delayed by 60 days. So for example, you will only find out what you earned in Jun once you get to August.

Take the net amount each month from the eScrip report and paste it into the earnings.xls(available in Google Drive for the user). In that xls there is a tab for the pie chart for each year. For the purposes of calculating earnings, a year runs from Jul-Jun, to roughly coincide with the school year. This is just to have some consistency to chop it up so that we can see how we’re doing from one year to the next. You can take the pie chart now and again and publish it to the website so everyone can see how we’re doing.

The earnings.xls isn’t just for eScrip earnings. You can use it to track earnings from anywhere, SHARES, box tops, walk-a-thonfor example. You may need to get some figures from the Treasurer to track earnings.

Power Registration

‘Power Registration’ allows you to sign up new supporters that perhaps don’t have internet access, or they do but just haven’t got around to signing up. You can’t add additional cards to an existing registration though, only the supporter can do that themselves. You can only sign up new people through Power Registration. Another thing to look out for, most supporters will have forgotten their password but the ‘Forgot Password’ link will only work if they have chosen to register their email address when they signed up.

When signing people up via Power Registration, you can send them a confirmation email, something like this:

Confirmation Email – send when signing up a new supporter

------

Hi <supporter name>,

Congratulations! You are now signed up with eScrip to support Carl B. Munck Elementary. Your supporter ID is <supporter ID>. You don't need to do anything from here but should you want to make any updates to your registration, you can go to and use the 'Forgot Password' link to create a new password. You've done the hard part, now you can relax knowing that a percentage of your monthly spend is helping our school.

If you've signed up with your Safeway Clubcard, the percentage you earn is based on your monthly grocery bill.

If you've also signed up with your credit / debit card, thank you! This greatly increases the percentages we can earn every time we shop at local retailers such as Round Table Pizza (6%) and Eddie Bauer (5%). Many other retailers are registered with eScrip. You can check out the 'Search for merchants' link at for a full list.

Don't forget to always sign in and click through the eScrip Mall if you do any shopping online. Or now, you can simply click on the Online Mall logo from our school website (http: eScrip has over 800 retailers just waiting to take your order and give our school a nice big percentage at no additional cost to you!

Thank you for your continued support of our school. Every penny we raise directly benefits the quality of school life we provide for our children.

Happy shopping!

Carol.

eScrip Recycling

Munck is signed us up for this program but we have not kicked it off. More about it:

SHARES cards

1-800-477-5437

Account id is 53423.

Each swipe of the S.H.A.R.E.S. card earns 3% of qualified purchases for the school. Cards have no cash value. They are tied to the school, not the person carrying the card. No extra sign ups or renewals required.

Remind everyone to use their SHARES cards. Every single family was sent one in June 2009 with the back to school letter. Make sure incoming families receive one. They are in the PTA box in the office. 500 cards were ordered initially but we can order more. Those 500 were free but we may need to pay a small fee for any extra cards.

Box Tops

Customer service: 1-888-799-2444

School ID 195159

They are printed on all sorts of packaging. A partial list: All General Mills cereals (Cheerios, Chex, Kix, Fiber One, Total, Wheaties, etc.), Ziploc products, Hefty garbage bags, Cottonelle Bathroom Tissue, Go-Gurt yogurt, Hamburger Helper, Pizza Rolls, Betty Crocker mixes, Huggies diapers, Scott Towels, Fruit Rollups and many more.

The white mail box in the lobby is where parents need to drop them off (see the school office for the key). In general, the expiration date is pretty far out (a couple of years) but still many that come in are already expired. We need to encourage people not to hold on to them for too long.

Each one is worth 10c. If every family collects just two a week, that could be another few THOUSAND dollars per year.

Families can sign up to receive the Box Tops newsletter at and should receive 5 bonus box tops.

To become a coordinator, you first have to register yourself, then you can choose to be a coodinator.

Submissions must be postmarked by Oct 31st, check is mailed Dec 15th, or by Feb 28th for April 15th.

To submit box tops, cut them out and bag them up into groups of 50 – e.g. use the smallest zipped snack bags.

Campbells Labels for Education

Customer service: 1-800-424-5331

Account # 2000-0000-0922-120

This program and Box Tops for Education are similar. You get real dollars when redeeming box tops which you can spend as you wish. Each box top is worth 10c. Campbells is different. Instead of real dollars, you get points credited into an account when redeeming UPC codes from Campbells products. UPC codes are worth either 1 point or 5 points depending on the product. E.g. a can of condensed soup is worth 1 point. A bag of Pepperidge Farm Goldfish is worth 5 points. Points can be exchanged for school items such as sports equipment, art supplies, musical instruments which you can order from the online catalog. 75 points has the buying power of approximately $1. In summary, this is quite a time intensive process, for not much gain.

Parents often send in the whole label but it’s actually just the UPC code that you need. You can cut them out and turn them in as-is but if you choose to stick them onto collection sheets you get one free UPC code square per sheet.

Munck already has quite a quantity of points in the ‘bank’, around 13,000. We should check the catalog and see what we want to get in exchange for the points.

OneCause

This works a little like eScrip. Supporters sign up and choose the school they would like to support. Online vendors mostly. Blue Sky Cleaners only local one. Haven’t promoted this because eScrip provides better percentages for the same online retailers.

The school is assigned a ‘Champion’ which is the person signed up to coordinate the program. They have access to the ‘My School’ part of the website.

Checks are made payable to Carl B. Munck PTA and are sent to whichever address designated on the ‘My School’ page.

Terracycle

Our school was signed up as a ‘brigade’ to collect drink pouches, like CapriSun. Each one collected is worth 2c. We did it for a couple of months. After a huge amount of effort and lots of ants in the garage, we earned a rewarding $10! It served its purpose as a hands-on lesson for the children about recycling, saving the planet etc. but as a fundraiser, huge effort for very little gain.

One suggestion though is perhaps we could consider the end product for the Dragon Store? The children thought the pencil cases were really cool:

OtherPotential Programs

Scrip Cards

Joaquin Miller say they get good earnings from Scrip Cards. Works a bit like giftcards, only we get a percentage of the value of the giftcard. Farmer Joe’s and Berkeley Bowl do it. More info here.

Great Lakes Scrip

Same giftcard idea, but not paper, and has more retailers enrolled. Local schools say they get good earnings from it.But Michele Nero (our coordinator in 2012) did this program and we got $80, so it didn’t turn out to be a huge earner.
