The aim of the course is to improve the students' capabilities of reading and understanding academic texts.
The students will be able to recognize the different methods of text organization .
The students will learn how to extract and order information and be able to detect the main ideas.
The students will know how to find the main idea in the text whether or not it is stated explicitly.
All tutorials that are submitted are corrected by the lecturer, and are then corrected according to the comments by the student . Not all aspects of language can be corrected at once, so the lecturer will correct some and return the tutorial to the student. The student will correct his tutorial according to the lecturer's comments
And submit his work a second and even a third time to for further corrections and to ensure he has corrected his work properly.
There is a weekly assignment which offers the student a choice of topics so that every student can choose the topic he can best handle. He can express himself according to his personal level and improve his writing at his own pace.
In addition, every student must present a text, he has coped with on his own, in class. In case the student expresses anxiety about presenting in front of an audience, he might presents privately.
The grade of the course is composed of two components:
a. The class grade - 70%
b. Exam - 30& (provided he scores 60% on the exam)

At the end of the course the student is tested on materials studied in class.

The students are given two options thus enabling the stronger students to express themselves and allowing the weaker ones to express themselves.

Discussion of the meaning of the text in light of the use of complex sentences.
Tutorial
Analysis of choice significant complex sentences in the text along with a thorough explanation of the importance of breaking up choice sentences so as to find the main clause and comprehend the idea the sentence conveys.
Assignment
Practise of finding the main clause and its significant effect on reading comprehension.
Correction of the former tutorial.

Synthesis of the elements of reading comprehension.

The students are given a paper with an abstract beginning of the text and beginning of every other paragraph.
Choose one of the following tasks:
a. Write a short text based on the abstract and the beginning of every other paragraph.
b. Explain the abstract I your own words and list the predicted main ideas.
Here again the weaker student will have an equal chance of writing and making progress at his own pace.

This text allows for a highly challenging and interesting discussion of the main ideas and the writer's message via the technical elements that have hopefully been acquired throughout the course.
