Summer Term Week 3 Newsletter
Focused, hardworking, happy children!!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Another really busy and exciting week at school with lots of learning and some sunshine at last! I am feeling positive about summer arriving and the scope it brings for outdoor learning. The Gledhow triangle gives us enough room for all the children to be able to play on the grass during lunch time and break time with enough space to really get out and enjoy the warmth, sunshine and space.
PSA Spring Raffle
It's raffle time! You should have got some tickets to sell in book bags on Friday (or will do next week if not and there are spares in the office). Please sell a few to your friends and relatives over the next few weeks. There is a truly stunning array of prizes this year. Top work by the raffle team in gathering such fabulous prizes! Which one have you got your eye on? (John Lewis vouchers anyone?). Draw at a Reception Fun Friday 19th May - details to follow.
Summerfield Celebration
Our entrance to school is getting a makeover to enhance the already lovely space we have created for our library.
As you can see one of our talented Parents, Emma Hockney, has created this beautiful shield to adorn the walls with further help from Suzie Ward and Karl Sinclair. The display is a work in progress with lots of help and input from across the school.
We would also like to say thank you to those year 4 and 5 children who have helped this week… So thank you to: Kristina Batey, Saul Sillers, Hana Idris, Mae Russell, Kian Weavers, Ayaan and Eesat Ijaz.
We are aiming for it to be complete by the end of May at the latest – so watch this space.
Fund Raising
WOW! Izzie Piper from 6EC has raised more than £35 for the school council by completing a sponsored silence and by selling handmade jewellery. We are all really proud of the motivation and initiative this has shown – Well done Izzie. The money raised will go towards the reading area.
Maths
A huge thank you to all the parents who attended the Maths CalculationParents Evening last half term. Following on from feedback from parents we would like to make you aware of the following:
1. The Maths objectives for the summer term for Year 1 - 6 are now available on the school website for parents / carers to view (Maths at Gledhow Summer term), both in Hot off the Press and on the Maths section within the Curriculum tab.
2. KIRFs - Key Instant Recall Facts for years 1 - 6 are also on the Maths section of the school website. An excellent way for parents to be involved in their child's education.
3. Year 3/4 Maths Workshop will be held on Thursday 18th May and led by Mrs Limbert and Miss Griffiths. Parents are invited to bring along their child and work with them to develop their understanding of the calculation policies used in school. Places will be limited so please contact school directly to book a place. Do not despair if your child is in a different year group - the maths team intend to run a programme of workshops covering all year groups.
3KG - Assembly
Don’t forget your class assembly is on Wednesday 17th May at 10.45am in the hall and we’d love parents to join us. I happened to wander into a rehearsal this week and it looks like it is going to be great.
Assembly Programme for Summer Term
If you are interested, the Assembly Programme for this term is also now available on the website in the Hot off the Press section on the Home Page. The main themes are ‘British Values’ and ‘What Makes a Good Citizen’. We are delighted that St Edmund’s new vicar, Nigel Wright will be continuing the tradition of his predecessor, David, by visiting the school to support some Class Assemblies on Thursdays this term.
