Unit Summary
Students will explore the lives of early pioneers by listening and reading about pioneers, constructing models of log cabins, playing games which were popular with pioneer children and creating crafts typically made by pioneers.

Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction
Resource Student / Provide group setting, detailed instructions in written and oral form, and extra time, if necessary, on projects. Revise requirements if necessary.
Gifted Student / Make a chart of three different pioneers. It should include their names, what years they explored, and where they explored.
Student Assessment
Students will receive a checklist stating the unit requirements. They include:
Report on pioneer.
Completion of covered wagon or log cabin.
Completion of brochure or flyer.
Completion of quilt block.
Assessment will be in rubric form. It includes:
Completion of projects - 20 points
Involvement in class discussions - 5 points
Involvement in class activities - 5 points
