Clara Barton- Known as the ‘Angel of the Battlefield’, Clara was born in Massachusetts and served in the Civil War nursing soldiers and distributing supplies for Union soldiers and Confederate prisoners who were sick or wounded. She established the first permanent American Red Cross society and headed the organization until 1904.

General Robert E. Lee- Leader of the entire Confederate army, Robert E. Lee was originally Abraham Lincoln’s choice to head the Union army. He declined the offer when his home state of Virginia seceded from the Union. Throughout the war, he struggled with the country fighting each other.

Abraham Lincoln- Born in Kentucky, Abraham Lincoln was from Illinois when he won the election of 1860 to become the 16th President of the United States. He believed in restricting the spread of slavery and keeping the states united.

Jefferson Davis- From Mississippi, Jefferson Davis was the first President of the Confederate States of America. He believed that slavery was ‘absolutely necessary’.
