Kindergarten News
Things to talk to your child about
- What do you do at morning meeting?
- What book did you hear at read aloud today or last week?
- Who do you play with on the playground?
Things to know
- This week there are two important evening events!
- Chaperone training is September 17 from 6:30-8:30. In order to volunteer in the classroom or attend day, extended day, or overnight fieldwork parents must attend Volunteer/Chaperone Orientation every three years. There is no babysitting that night.
- The welcome reception for new families and Kindergarten families is September 18 at 6:30 in the ballroom. This is a great way to connect with the families of the children who will be in your child’s class for the next 7 years! There is yummy food, good conversation and babysitting.
- Thank you so much for a great start to the year! We have had all or most children bring their blue folder back everyday! Thank you also for the notes about dismissal changes and other important topics. The communication really helps us keep everybody safe and happy.
- We have begun our first expedition! We are busy learning more about the people and places in our classroom community.
- In Writing, children have begun to tell stories through drawing and beginning letters and sounds.
- In Math, we are working on sorting and one to one correspondence in counting.
- In Reading, children have been exposed to read alouds and have started to think about concepts of print such as the cover, title, words and illustrations in a book. They have also been practicing work quietly and independently.
- There are a lot of things to learn as a new parent at our school! We have just a couple of things we wanted to remind you of or let you know about.
- For community circle, children can go sit with families if you arrive before we have started. If you arrive after the singing has started, that is okay and we are happy to have you, however as a school we have agreed to have the child stay with the class once the singing has started. You are welcome to come join us on the floor if you have arrived late and would like to sit with your child. Children in the family section come back to the class at the end of community circle and parents meet us on the patio. Families are dismissed after all of the classes have been dismissed. Following this procedure helps to keep the hallways clear and makes dismissal a little less confusing. Thank you so much for joining us at community circle when you are able to!
- For rainy days, we respectfully ask that your child not bring an umbrella to school. It is tricky for kids to carry them while walking in line. Also at the end of the day, during pack up time, the umbrella often becomes something it was not intended to be!
Things to remember
- PE is on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please make sure your child wears sneakers on those days and is dressed comfortably. There is no need to send clothes to change into.
- If you need to contact us, our emails are or . The phone number to the office is 271-4552 ext 460.
Have a happy week!

Dear friends of Raptor,
I am writing to let you know that our dear friend Raptor died over the weekend. He was 11 years old. Geckos typically have a lifespan of 5-10 years. I am sure that the love he felt from all of you is the reason he lived to be such an old man!
I have purchased a new gecko for the Kindergarten classroom. He is just a baby, so he should live at GCCS for a long time! He is about 4 inches long right now, brownish in color and a very good jumper! I have him at my house now so that he can get used to his habitat and so I can make sure he is healthy and settling in.
I need your help naming him! If you have an idea for a name for the new gecko, please write it on the list attached. I will collect the names at the end of this week and then Kindergarteners will vote on the name they like best. I will let you know what they pick. Thanks for your help!
Raptor’s friend,
Miss Fredericks
