CLASS TITLE:COMMUNITY YOUTH LEADER SUPERVISOR - SES
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is work supervising Community Youth Leaders. The primary duty of the employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class is to spend a major portion of the time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and having the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward or discipline subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions.

- Motivates employees to improve the quality and quantity of work performed.
- Plans work loads, work flows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
- Evaluates employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to ensure the established criteria are met.
- Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
- Communicates on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings.
- Directs the work of employees to ensure best use of time and resources.
- Coordinates the placement of youth in sheltered care homes and the assignment of cases.
- Conducts regular inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Assists in developing a public relations program to keep the community informed.
- Counsels with staff, parents, and youths.
- Prepares written evaluations of the program.
- Recommends policy, program, and procedural changes.
- Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Knowledge of the practices used in caring for youths.
- Knowledge of growth and development theories pertaining to youth.
- Knowledge of housekeeping techniques.
- Knowledge of counseling techniques.
- Ability to provide counseling services to staff, parents, and youths.
- Ability to coordinate the placement of youths in sheltered care homes.
- Ability to conduct inspections to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Ability to supervise people.
- Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Florida Statute 985 requires any person employed in this class at the Department of Juvenile Justice must:
- 1. Be at least 19 years of age.
- 2. Be a high school graduate or its equivalent as determined by the commission.
- Not have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after September 30, 1999, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement is not eligible for employment, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication. Notwithstanding this subparagraph, any person who pleads nolo contendere to a misdemeanor involving a false statement before October 1, 1999, and who has had such record of that plea sealed or expunged is not ineligible for employment for that reason.
- 4. Abide by all the provisions of s. 985.01(2) regarding fingerprinting and background investigations and other screening requirements for personnel.
- 5. Execute and submit to the department an affidavit-of-application form, adopted by the department, attesting to his or her compliance with subparagraphs 1. through 4. The affidavit must be executed under oath and constitutes an official statement under s. 837.06. The affidavit must include conspicuous language that the intentional false execution of the affidavit constitutes a misdemeanor of the second degree. The employing agency shall retain the affidavit.
