NEEDED: LOCAL CHAMPIONS OF WOMEN’S MENTAL HEALTH
Can You Help Ensure That Unserved, Underserved and Inappropriately Served Multicultural Women and Girls are Included in the Local Mental Health Services Act Planning Process?
The California Women’s Mental Health Policy Council (WMHPC) is a statewide organization dedicated to improving mental health services for women and girls in California. The WMHPC has provided testimony to policy-makers, conducted training and conferences for mental health practitioners, and published research information on culturally competent/gender sensitive mental health services for women and adolescent girls that also focused on wellness that included recovery/resiliency. See our research information to
The WMHPC is developing a network of Local Champions (i.e., local elected officials, mental health staff, consumers, family members, policy makers, other members of the Mental Health Services Act planning process), to participate in an effort to assure that MHSA planning includes the needs for services, and access to care for women and girls.
Local Championswill receive training on culturally competent gender-sensitive issues. The training will have values-driven promising and evidence based clinical practices for women and girls, and will be consistent with the five elements identified in the MHSA requirements: community collaboration, cultural competence, client- and family-driven services, wellness focus that includes recovery and resiliency, and integrated service experiences for women and girls. They will receive Women’s Mental Health Policy and Practice Briefs over the next year outlining specific issues, such as trauma and co-occurring disorders. They will participate in regular conference calls to discuss gender issues and to share successful local strategies.
The WMHPC will identify volunteers who are willing to participate in this exciting planning effort. Please complete the attached form and mail, e-mail or fax to:
