Room 211

November 16, 2014

Snow

The snow is here and the boot rugs are out in the hall! We are into this new winter routine, and I reminded the kids that they need to have shoes (or fashion boots) and outdoor boots. If it is easier, your child can leave a pair of shoes here overnight on the boot rugs. I have also placed a Room 211 Lost and Found for stray mittens and hats in the hallway right next to these rugs.

Hot Chocolate/Cider

Its chilly outside and we think it is here to stay for awhile. Sometimes we like to have hot chocolate or cider to sip on while we do our morning work. If each child could bring in a mug (with their name on the bottom) that would be great! Then we also need some donations of plain hot chocolate, marshmallows and cider.

Please send the variety of hot chocolate that does NOT have marshmallows in it.)

Wild Rumpus Book Fair

Thank you to all who purchased books to donate to the classroom. It was an exciting day on Thursday morning when all were shared in morning circle. Every book on our list was purchased and donated. THANK YOU! A big shout out to Ava’s mom, Amy who put in lots of work as one of the chairpersons!

Food and Clothing Drive

Its that time of year when Barton embarks on collecting gently used winter gear: snow pants, boots, jackets, mitten and scarves. We are also collecting nonperishable food. Bring items to the tables outside of the main office. The drive ends on Tuesday, November 25.

Art Adventures

We continue to have art pieces introduced to us on Tuesdays. Holly’s dad, Jason, was in and and we discussed two pieces: : Reminiscences of 1865 by John Frederick Peto and Portrait of George Washington by Thomas Sully.

Each Tuesday in November we will be introduced to two more pieces of art work.

Human Domes

Friday architects used their bodies to make domes. 6 children and a basketball were used to create domes. We continue to explore ways to figure out what shape is the strongest. Sara Stenzel took photos and I will see that they get put on our class web page. Nest week’s challenge involves pennies. Penny would like each child to contribute to her penny pile. We will use them as weights on Friday, Nov 21st. Each child will get their pennies back after the lesson. We need LOTS of pennies.

Math Homework

I got almost 100% of the math homework returned on Wednesday or Thursday. If you have too many big pink, yellow or blue math papers floating around your house help your child get them turned in!
