Presidents Message

By Jeff Gase

I would like to wish all our members a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. This message may not get

To you until after the New Year, but the thought is the same.

We have a very good slate of tournaments scheduled in 2016 and my hope is that all of the regulars play

And hopefully quite a few of members that do not play will decide to play more in 2016. Again I would

Point out that we have a very good website with lots of information and a BSGC member there are many

SCGA tourneys that you all can play in. The best SCGA opportunity is the Member Outings. They just

Released the 2016 schedule (which they will add to throughout the year). It is packed with many Private

Courses that most of you could never play. I am not a member of a private club and I try to play in 3 or

4 of these events each year.

To all of our members, have a good golfing year and join me at our tournaments.

Treasurer’s Message

By Scott Thoeny

Suffice to say, our Club is more than solvent. I won’t bore you with the financial details, but we have sufficient funds to operate and may in fact be looking at spending down some of our excess next year: details TBD. The Club usually carries about $1400 in outstanding scrip (winnings owed from our tournaments – not sidepot winnings). A good percentage of this is owed to people that don’t play in our tournaments that often and/or were guests at one of our tournaments. Playing members can help utilize some of that outstanding scrip by buying anyone’s scrip who you might know that wouldn’t otherwise make use of it. Just let Scott Thoeny know that you are buying someone’s scrip, and I will transfer their scrip to your name on our scrip list (see website for latest scrip list). This also goes for balls that were won and aren’t being redeemed. I will make a targeted attempt at getting people to buy out scrip sometime next year (i.e. will contact individuals who have outstanding scrip and/or those that might want to buy them out). It is our Club’s preference that tournament winnings be paid out rather than held by the Club, so your help in spending our scrip is appreciated.

SCGA 4-Ball Qualifying/Championship: Dan Biddle/Robert Willis

Dan Biddle and Robert Willis represented Boeing Space in good fashion by getting through the qualifying tournament in September and going on to take 15th out of 52 teams in the Championship held at Temecula Creek on October 5th and 6th. They shot a respectable 10 under par and made us all proud. Thanks Dan and Robert.

SCGA Tournament of Club Champions: Nelson Anzora, Scott Thoeny

Nelson finished 9th and Scott finished 28th in their respective flights. Nelson played in the Jack Nicklaus flight (5.8 to 7.6 index) at Marriott Shadow Ridge Golf Club on December 7th and shot net 3 over par to finish 9th out of 56 players. The winning score was 2 under. Scott played in the Arnold Palmer flight (7.7 to 9.7 index) at the Classic Club on December 7th and shot net 7 over par to finish 28th out of 56 players. The winning score was 7 under. Thanks to both for representing our Club.

2016 Tournament Schedule

Tournaments

I am pleased to announce our 2016 schedule. Brand-new venues this year include Oceanside and Golf Club of California. We are also returning to some of our older venues that we have not played for a while.

I also want to thank the volunteer tournament chairpersons that sign up to run our tournaments. Without our volunteers, there would be no golf club. If you are interested in running one of our future tournaments, let me know. It’s easy! Your compensation is free golf and cart for all your hard work.

Website

Please continue to visit our website at http://www.boeingspacegolfclub.org/ . All information regarding our present and past tournaments are posted, along with other related information. Check it out! In the last quarter of 2015, the website is getting an average of 51 visits a week, with a high of 116 and a low of 30.

Secretary’s Message

Victor Allen

The SCGA has an exciting one-day series tournament program. Tournaments are held throughout the year at various courses from Santa Barbara to San Diego and Los Angeles to Palm Springs. Most of the courses are top notch, with some having entry fees lower than regular green fee for the course. Players accumulate points based on participation and order of finish in each of the tournaments. Flight winners receive a trophy and gift cards to local golf shops, such as Golfsmith. The top sixteen players for the year are invited to play in a season ending match play tournament to decide the overall champion. In 2015, three BSGC members participated in this event. All three represented BSGC well. With over 700 golfers participating in the one-day series, Victor Allen finished in 24th place, Daniel Biddle in 44th place and Kevin Hill in 49th place. For more information, check the tournament page on the SCGA website.

Golf Humor

During his physical, the doctor asked the patient about his daily activity level. He described a typical day this way:

“Well, yesterday afternoon, I waded along the edge of a lake, drank eight beers, escaped from wild dogs in the heavy brush, marched up and down several rocky hills, stood in a patch of poison ivy, crawled out of quicksand, jumped away from an aggressive rattlesnake and took four leaks behind big trees.”

Inspired by the story, the doctor said, “You must be one hell of an outdoors man!”

”No,” he replied, “I'm just a bad golfer.”
