FULL PROPOSALS
Full proposals
The Pre-proposal Review Committee of the Board will recommend projects for submission of a full proposal. If the application is a request for additional funds to support work previously funded by Pet Trust include one additional page to describe the progress to date and list any publications, abstracts, and presentations, and provide rationale. Please include the project registration number (code).
- Length:
Please limit full proposals to five (5) pages, excluding one additional page for references. Full proposals that are renewals of previous grants will be allowed an extra page to describe results obtained during the previous funding period. Additionally, resubmissions of previously unfunded proposals will be allowed an extra page for response to reviewers comments. Font size of the print should be no less than 12 pt and margins no less than 2.5 cm. Proposals with a smaller font size or margins will be rejected.
2.Format for Full Proposals:
Full proposal must be prepared using the following headings:
- Short lay summary (identifying the problem/disease that is to be studied so that donorscan understand)
- Introduction (background)
- Hypothesis and Objective(s)
- Materials and Methods
- Data analysis (statistics); please include justification for study sample sizes
- Anticipated Results, Study Significance and Study Limitations
- Project Milestones (milestone, description of activity, anticipated completion date)
Preliminary data supporting the proposal is strongly encouraged and will substantially strengthen the proposal. Rationale, experimental methods and design should be included for each specific objective as well as anticipated shortcomings (i.e. pitfalls).
- Budget:
The budget pages do not count in the maximum allotted pages for the full proposal. The PI may use as many pages as necessary for the budget. Be sure to include sufficient detail for each budget item so that the review committee can assess the validity of your budget calculations.
N.B. If hospital resources are to be used in the study (e.g diagnostic tests, technical support, surgical supplies etc.) details of expenses must be included in the budget and a Research Authorization Form signed by the Associate Dean Administration (Dr. S. Cox) must be included with the full proposal.
Also, charges for use of college research facilities such as the Comparative Clinical Research Facility and/or user fees for college research equipment must be included in the budget.
The following will be considered as eligible budget items:
- Technical support: Technical support must be justified. Student stipends are not eligible.
- Operating costs (check websites, fee guides and with facility managers for prices)
- Small equipment requests (totaling less than $5000) and equipment maintenance/service.
Note if funds are available from other sources provide the source and amount.
- CV and Template:
The primary investigator must include a complete CV in any common format that is limited to 5 pages. In order to assist us with accountability, a template will be provided listing Pet Trust projects awarded to the primary investigator over the last five years. Please provide the requested information about each project.
- Exclusions and Acknowledgements:
Equine proposals will not be funded by Pet Trust. The support of the Pet Trust should be acknowledged on all oral or poster presentations, abstracts, and publications.
- Agreement to Assist in Pet Trust Promotion Activities:
Pet Trust funding is critical for the continued success of our companion animal research program, and for project support relative to most small animal DVSc candidates. Continued promotion and the ongoing transfer of research results to practitioners are essential if we want Pet Trust to remain successful. All Pet Trust-funded faculty and graduate students need to recognize this aspect and must to be willing to participate in public events.
The completed full proposal, 1 copy of CV with Pet Trust Template, must be submitted electronically on or before the deadline to Barb Gaudette at . Signed paper copies of OR5 forms must also submitted to Barb Gaudette. An approved Animal Utilization Protocol and other approvals such as for the use of: biohazardous or radioactive materials, human subjects, client animals, and hospital and AHL facilities (Research Authorization form) must also be provided before awarded funds are transferred to the applicant. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
