Skills and Experience / Essential or DesirableUnderstanding of the situation of the Syrian refugee crisis and a proven commitment to helping people who are in desperate need and improving outcomes for the disadvantaged / Essential
Strong organisational skills and the proven ability to drive work forwards independently and deliver objectives on time, whilst ensuring that issues are referred appropriately to the line manager / Essential
Excellent communication skills including the ability to speak persuasively about the project to a variety of audiences, some of whom may be sceptical or hostile, and strong drafting skills. / Essential
A broad understanding of housing policy, welfare, the benefits system, immigration issues and the implications of refugee status. / Essential
The ability to understand and explain the implications for the project of government policy and advise [the Diocese] accordingly. / Essential
The proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships within the Diocese and the wider Church and with stakeholders and partner organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors. / Essential
An understanding of the teaching of the Catholic Church, the position of the Church within society, Catholic social teaching and its call to action. / Essential
Strong project management skills with experience of successfully leading and managing projects that involve close collaboration with external partners to succeed / Essential

Understanding of the organisational structure of the Diocese including the role of parishes and other Catholic organisations / Desirable

Full UK driving licence and access to a car insured for business use / Essential
The ability to setup and manage teams for refugee service implementation such as: befriending, language, resettlement, fundraising. / Essential
The ability to travel and work flexibly throughout the diocese- evenings and weekends when necessary. / Essential
Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance is an essential requirement of this role and will be sought for the successful interview candidate.
