Job Title:Learning, Skills & Work Officer

Report to:Learning, Skills & Work Coordinator

Location:The post holder will be based in Redditch and Bromsgrove and will be required to spend most of their time at various

projects.

Salary:Scale 6, Point 26 – 28, £21,937 - £23,405, pro rata, per annum.

Hours:18.75 hours per week – evening and weekend workmay be required.

Job Purpose:To provide an intensive employment and training guidance service to young people who areresidentsof St Basils’ services.

Main Duties:

Employment and Training Service

  • Deliver a high quality level of information, advice and guidance (IAG) in accordance with the Matrix Standard
  • Complete and review Work Star and bespoke action plans
  • Work closely with support staff to ensure a cohesive, team approach in facilitating young peoples’ progress
  • Apply a mix of quality holistic support, challenge and mentoring techniques to the relationship with the young person
  • Encouraging and motivating young people as they are supported in accessing and sustaining engagement, education, training, volunteering and employment opportunities
  • If appropriate, support the young person in understanding and working within DWP processes and requirements that they are subject to
  • Working towards and exceeding contractual and personal objectives
  • Monitoring young peoples’ progress, working innovatively and flexibly to assist with any problems which may arise
  • Coachingyoung people on all aspects of job seeking e.g. careers guidance, the local labour market, jobseeking techniques, etc.
  • Advise young people/staff on aspects of‘in work benefits’, referring residents to specialist agencies where appropriate
  • Monitor labour market trends in order to match residentswith relevant opportunities
  • Work closely with the Partnerships & Progression Officer to refer appropriate young people for opportunities in work experience and employment
  • To participate in the Schools Training and Mentoring Projectand Life Skills,as required

Development Work

  • Establish and develop links with training providers, employers, volunteering networks etc. in order to improve access to training opportunities for residents. Share relevant information with the wider LSW team, as well as notifying residents and staff directly
  • Identify and recommend additional resources and services appropriate to the client group
  • Attend conferences and seminars as appropriate
  • Facilitate and/or deliver workshops for young people, as necessary

Miscellaneous Duties

  • Support residents, as necessary in engaging with the programme, in conjunction with the support provided by project support workers and key workers
  • Regularly evaluate service delivery, using feedback from residents and operations function staff
  • Complete and submit accurate information concerning registrations and young peoples’ progress to the Data & Information Officer each month
  • Maintain accurate records of all residents’action plans and progress
  • Represent St. Basils externally, as required
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by the line manager and/or the senior management team of St. Basils

General

  • Attend staff meetings and in-house training sessions as required
  • To be responsible for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and others at work
  • The post holder must take responsibility for their own self-development and ensure that the knowledge and information they use in their job is current and relevant
  • To consult with Line Manager and/or the Agency’s Marketing/Communications Officer when likely to be involved in any campaigning issues or before any involvement with the media on matters relating to St. Basils
  • St. Basils is dependent upon its ability to raise funds in order to sustain and develop its work with young people, therefore, all employees are expected to support the work of the Fundraising Department and wherever possible, be involved in fundraising events

Conditions of Employment:

Wherever you are initially based, it must be recognised that the company reserves the right, giving reasonable notice, to re-locate the post holder, dependent on the requirements of the Agency, at any time.

Hours of Work:

18.75 hours per week, which excludes daily half hour for lunch. Evening/weekend work may be required in order to meet the needs of young people.

Holidays

25 days per annum, plus 8 statutory bank holidays and 3 concessionary days’ holiday, pro-rata, per annum.
