NSPE Board of Directors Meeting
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
- Met with representatives from Engineers Canada and the Association of Professional Engineers and Professional Geologists of Alberta to discuss U.S. and Canada engineering education, qualifications, and licensure issues.
- Conducted strategic discussions on international issues, recruiting/retaining your engineers into the profession, generic vs. discipline-specific engineering licensure, communications planning, and software engineering.
- Received a report from the NSPE-SSEC President on progress being made regarding the National-State Partnership between NSPE and the state societies.
- Discussed method of increasing NSPE Officer and Board of Director engagement with the NSPE House of Delegates.
- Referred a resolution by the Louisiana Engineering Society (LES) to hold an upcoming NSPE meeting in New Orleans, LA to the NSPE Conference and Meeting Development Task Force for review and recommendation.
- Discussed methods of increasing NSPE House of Delegates and NSPE membership awareness and support for the additional education for professional practice (B+30) initiative recently reaffirmed by NCEES. A webinar is currently being planned for the coming weeks.
- Discussed the Corporate Membership Pilot Program and agreed that a summary of progress would be provided to the NSPE Board of Directors prior to each meeting.
- Discussed the efforts of the Student Chapter Evaluation Task Force in evaluating and strengthening the role of NSPE student chapters.
- Received training on the legal duties and responsibilities of the NSPE Board of Directors.
- Received a report from the Special Advisory Group to the Executive Director (SAGED) which included relations with NSPE's affiliate groups, the structure of the NSPE Annual Meeting, and the role of volunteers in a professional society.
- Recognized the excellent work of NSPE's National Institute for the Certification of Engineering and Technology (NICET) in certifying engineering technicians and technologists.
- Received an update from NSPE's Task Force on Software Engineering Licensure.
- Considered methods for streamlining the July 2008 NSPE Annual Meeting in Portland, including convening a joint NSPE Board of Directors and NSPE House of Delegates meeting.
- Agreed that the first phase of NSPE's redesigned Web site would be available by January 15, 2008. In addition, it was reported that NSPE is in the process of replacing outdated hardware to improve the performance of the NSPE association management system (AMS).
