Deputy Manager - Long Barn Supported Living

Job Context: Long Barn Supported Living is an autism spectrum specific adult social care provision provided by St Joseph's Specialist School and College. The aim of the project is to enable the tenants to develop key skills, independence, knowledge and confidence in order to be successful tenants and integrate into their local community.

Job title: Deputy Manager

Accountable to: Registered Manager (or the nominated individual in the absence of the manager) through the line management structure.

Accountable for: The Supported Living Workers

Job Purpose: To assist the Registered Manager as required and deputise in their absence, working to a high standard and in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008, the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC): Essential standards of quality and safety and in accordance with the philosophy of Long Barn Supported Living, the adult social care provision provided by St Joseph’s Specialist School and College.

Duties and responsibilities:

General:

·  To deputise for the Manager in their absence, including participating in on-call duties as required

·  To participate as directed in the duty rota, having good timekeeping skills

·  To fully understand the Safeguarding Adults Policy, reporting all incidences of suspected abuse and signs of non-accidental injury to the Manager or Safeguarding Officer

·  To report and record any incident or accident affecting any individual

·  To record relevant information in handover books and tenants individual files

·  To assist in maintaining effective communication and liaison with colleagues, tenants, families and other professional agencies as appropriate

·  To adhere to school policy on Health and Safety and report any concerns

·  To adhere to school policies and procedures in respect of Social Care Legislation and good practice e.g. The Health and Social Care Act, Equality Act and CQC standards or quality and safety

·  To participate in learning activities, as directed, for service development, team development and individual personal development

·  To maintain good practice and implement changes in accordance with developments in legislation and practice

·  To respect tenant and staff confidentiality and the rights of all individuals

·  To regularly participate in the evaluation of policies and procedures

·  To liaise with external agencies as required

Staff:

·  To Manage and Supervise the duty rotas, ensuring that adequate cover is provided, according to the assessed needs of the tenants

·  Assist the manager and participate in the induction process for support staff which may include mentoring or coaching new staff members

·  To supervise and/or support the work practice of the team as directed by the Manager

·  To attend and participate in team meetings, facilitating these meetings in the absence of the Manager

·  To provide supervision and support to workers as agreed with the Registered Manager

·  To contribute to staff meetings and handovers and to participate in working groups as directed

·  To provide support, mentoring and coaching as required

People who use the service (tenants):

·  To establish and maintain positive working relationships with tenants that recognise their diversity and promote their independence

·  To be responsible for the emotional, social, physical needs and appropriate support of the tenants within your care

·  To be responsible for assessing, monitoring and recording tenants progress as appropriate

·  To prepare and review regularly, in partnership with tenants, their families and other professional as appropriate, all individual support plans and risk assessments

·  To supervise and assist tenants with their personal care, needs and routines following individual care and support plans, guidelines and procedures

·  To ensure there are planned opportunities for tenants to participate in a variety of learning, work and leisure activities to meet individual needs and wishes following risk assessment as appropriate

·  To encourage choice and active participation in activities within Springvale and the local community

·  To take responsibility for the administration, recording, storage of drugs and medicines and safekeeping of drug cupboard keys in accordance with tenants support plans and policy

·  To support tenants to develop and carry out independence skills including self advocacy

·  To consult and plan with tenants, their families, support workers and outside agencies as appropriate to ensure the needs and wishes of the tenant are met

·  To encourage tenants to take responsibility for resources and the environment
