General Expectations— Must be actively involved in the sacramental life of the Church.
Christian Formation-- Concurrent enrollmentattendance in Christian Formation/LifeTeen is mandatory. Missing more than 30% of CF nights we ask you to wait for the sacrament.
Letter-Candidates express their desire to enter the Confirmation process and be confirmed in a letter to the pastor prior their entrance interview.
Interview—The interview is for the student who wishes to be confirmed. The interview must happen prior to the candidate beginning sacramental preparation. Helpful hint: Know the date, place of your baptism, and something about the place where you were baptized.
Confirmation Classes—These classes are mandatory preparation for the sacrament of confirmation. They will generally be on Sundays afternoons. Missed classes must be made up. If after looking at your schedule, you feel like you cannot commit to being present, we ask that you wait for the sacrament.
Retreat- You must attend the scheduled retreat. The retreat is mandatory and time should be saved immediately to guarantee participation. Work schedules, school activities, sports, and SATs, etc can be adjusted with adequate notice. Start working now to clear your calendar.
Sponsors—Candidates should select a sponsor who "is to take care that the person confirmed behaves as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfills the duties inherent in the sacrament." A sponsor should be a confirmed Catholic in good standing in the Church. Parents cannot serve as sponsors for their own children. Sponsors must have a sponsor form on file.Sponsor forms are due by Session 3 (Feb 26)
Baptism-Candidates must have been baptized and a copy of their certificate must be on file.
Confirmation Liturgy—The date and place of the celebration of the sacrament is determined by the Diocese. As soon as we know, we will let you know when that will be. It is generally sometime in the Easter season. There will be confirmation practice 1 week prior to the confirmation liturgy.
Parents—There are number of opportunities for you to continue to grow in your faith (see parish website). Also, for each session, we will need help in preparing lunch for the confirmands and confirmation team.
Decision-At the end of the process, candidates will indicate whether or not they desire to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
