TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

SEPTEMBER 13, 2015

From the Pastor’s office - The Pope is coming!! The Pope is coming!! It’s a phrase not heard in the Delaware Valley for almost 36 years when St. John Paul II made his historic visit to the United States in October 1979 which included Masses in the Civic Center and Logan Circle in Center City Philadelphia. The trip also included a private visit to St. Charles Seminary to greet seminarians and faculty. I had the privilege of witnessing that visit and the convergence of Pope John Paul and Mayor Frank Rizzo in the seminary chapel. I concelebrated Pope John Paul’s 1995 Mass in Oriole Stadium at Camden Yards on his second visit to the U.S. but there is nothing quite like Mass outdoors in the City of Brotherly Love. The Holy Father Francis on his first visit to the U.S. will electrify the country with his warmth and humility. Although he will visit New York and Washington DC and celebrate Mass and visit St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ground Zero, the U.N., Congress, Catholic University, and Mass in Madison Square Garden, the highlight will really be his visit to Philadelphia, the birthplace of our Nation’s freedom and the Festival of Families and Mass on the Ben Franklin Parkway, right in our backyard. Many pilgrims of our diocesan family will go to Philadelphia and Washington and will no doubt be moved by the experience. Let us pray for their safe travel and for the success and safety of Pope Francis’s journey. May he remind us of the truths of the Gospel and challenge us to seek and to offer mercy along our own journey of faith. May we be enriched by his visit and grow in holiness. We can prepare for Pope Francis’s visit by attending a Holy Hour of prayer and adoration in our church on Monday September 21st from 6:30-7:30pm.

2016 Mass Intentions - Since the earliest days, Holy Mass has been offered for the dead. Our prayers, but especially Holy Mass, assist those who have passed on to attain heaven. Also since its earliest days, the Church has offered Mass for the intentions of the living, especially the sick. We are now accepting Mass requests for the calendar year 2016. Many of you ask for Masses to be said regularly for deceased loved ones, and some ask that these Masses be offered on specific dates. We do our best to accommodate your requests but ask your patience and understanding in this regard. Since scheduling begins in mid-October, it is important that requests be received by October 1, 2015. If you would like to be informed of the dates and times of your scheduled requests please include a self-addressed stamped envelope, a phone number or email address so that we can contact you. There are some openings between now and the end of year if you are wanting to schedule Mass Intentions for your loved ones. The recommended stipend per mass is $10.00. To check availability, call the rectory office at 302-654-5519 or email . Send Email

FROM RELIGIOUS EDUCATION…The parish Religious Education office is currently looking for anyone who is considering the teaching field and would be interested in some “hands on” experience with a smaller middle grade class. The subject is our Catholic faith, the place is St. Ann School and the time is Sunday mornings from 10:45 until noon starting September 13th. PREP also has vacancies for aide positions and a catechist to team teach pre-school. I am also looking for someone to introduce the Catholic faith to three 10-12 year old future disciples. The meeting day and time can be tailored to suit your schedule. All teaching resources and supplies will be provided. Thank you for considering these needs and please keep our PREP children in your prayers as they continue their faith journey this month!
