Vision Teacher Distinguished Educator, 2016

Application Form

The New Hampshire Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education (Bureau) is seeking to contract with one individual to provide technical assistance, resources and training to school personnel and families regarding students who are blind or visually impaired for the 2016-2017 school year. As a Distinguished Vision Educator, the individual will be working closely with the Bureau of Special Education to promote improved outcomes for students who are blind and visually impaired. In order to be considered, the applicant must address how to implement the following:

·  Support the Bureau regarding the Federal Act to Promote the Education of the Blind; the American Printing House for the Blind Federal Quota Count, the American Printing House for the Blind educational materials, resources and trainings; the New Hampshire Accessible Educational Materials (NHAEM); and the National Instructional Materials Center (NIMAC) to promote understanding of the unique needs of students who are blind or visually impaired.

·  Provide technical assistance to districts to provide ongoing face to face on- site and statewide coaching to teachers, families and others regarding the official braille codes transition to Unified English Braille (UEB) based on the Braille Authority of North America (BANA) found at: http://www.brailleauthority.org/ueb.html

·  Partner with the New Hampshire Vision Teacher Community of Practice, Granite State and University of Massachusetts Vision Teacher Preparation Programs, and other national organizations such as the American Printing for the Blind; National Accessible Educational Materials, and the National Instructional Materials Center to promote understanding when dealing the unique needs of students who are blind and visually impaired.

The Distinguished Vision Teacher application must include the following:

Ø  A letter of interest detailing how your expertise and experience as a New Hampshire Vision Teacher qualifies you to be the best candidate for the New Hampshire Department of Education Vision Teacher Distinguished Educator Program.

Ø  Three (3) letters of recommendation;

Ø  Any product(s) that may demonstrate your level of expertise; and

Ø  A current resume and a copy of your current New Hampshire Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification.
