Everett read a thank you note from Tanner Keune, who attended the New Mexico Forestry Camp in Cuba, New Mexico. Tanner gave a report on his trip. The drive was beautiful and there are Pine Trees and sand in Cuba. The camp was held at a Girl Scout Camp where there is fishing. Fly fishing and fly lure tying are a few things that were taught during the week. The Teachers donated their time at the camp. He learned fires play a big role in our forests as well as water deposits and fossils. The camp was very informative and he hopes to attend again next year.
Jackie Fioretti gave an update on the drapes for the Community Lodge. They should be completed within the next week. The rings have to be attached and then they will be ready.
Everett advised the tractor mower is working well. He thanked Spud Jones for taking his time to help him install the repaired mower gear box.

Everett gave a report on the paving of the airstrip. It costs about one million per mile to asphalt an airstrip. Otero County has $125,000.00 in the budget for the airstrip. The last estimate to chip and seal, which lasts about ten years, cost about $70,000.00. Arden Schug asked does the runway need to be one mile? Paul Goss advised if you have to abort takeoff you need additional runway. Everett advised the existing runway would attract pilots with small aircraft that would like to fly in for lunch, or play golf. Everett made a request to the County to look into the cost to have the airstrip chip and sealed. He will also contact Mesa Verde, the road contractor laying the asphalt for the new road, for any other recommendations.
There will be new signs for the golf course. They will show hole number, par and yardage. There will also be women’s and back nine markers. We can look forward to these improvements on the golf course.
Parade Committee report was given by Chairperson, Eva Tannehill. She thanked everyone who participated and helped. All organizations gave their support and helped. A profit of $349.00 was made on the event. Fran Trendler will be sending out thank you notes. She thanked Paul Goss and Tom Tannehill for the signs, Rick Merrick for providing the band. The dance was a success. The Lions Club Bingo had a large croud and it was inclusive.
The Otero County Electric Company gave us the ad.
Everett read a thank you note, for the recent donation, from the Timberon Volunteer Fire Department. It was very nice and all the volunteers signed the card. Fire Chief, Arden Schug said the money will be used to purchase a machine to help people breathe in an emergency and will improve recovery time. Arden advised he looked at a lot that was donated to TDC that would be a good location for a future Sub Station. It meets the requirements for the State Fire Marshal and he has requested a site evaluation. There is
room for growth, a water tank and a siren to serve that area of the mountain. TDC will hold this property and not put it out for bid.
Jackie Fioretti reported we have four properties left to sell. It was suggested we contact adjacent property owners to see if they are interested in purchasing the lots. She will be sending packets to five people who are interested in donating their property.
Everett advised he and Jackie along with representatives from TWSD attended a meeting at the Chimney Spring Camp and Retreat Center in Mayhill on June 21st to discuss water. Approximately eighty people were there. This is a new group called the South Sacramento Water Group and is represented by several communities. They have collectively determined that its purpose is“… for public and private providers of water to collaborate regionally to use the best science to identify, prioritize and make decisions to improve the long-term quality and quantity of the available water, be large enough and effective enough to advocate at the State level, and to create strategies to conserve water which will be key to achieving the group’s purpose”.

REAP Sub Committee – Chairperson Gwen Adams gave an explanation of the purpose of this sub committee and advised REAP stands for Research, Evaluate, Assure & Present. She introduced Suzie Sims who gave a presentation on the proposed regulations for septic tanks. Suzie attended a training session conducted by the New Mexico Environment Department. At the present, the new rules are in limbo. She provided handouts on the subject. Any property that is one acre and above is not involved. A permit for 1/3 acre will not be approved. A permit for ½ acre is all right as long as it is approved. Suzie advised realtors were invited to attend the training session. The new rules will be state wide once they go into effect. More information will be provided when it is available.
Gwen asked how many present were interested in updating their covenants to avoid a law suite and to maintain the value of their property? We would like to offer this opportunity to address two specific items, double wide manufactured homes and detached structures allowed on a piece of property. The intent is to change the covenants that are outdated to allow present day building and living standards to be addressed. Ruby Roberts has agreed to assist us in this endeavor and there will be a meeting to discuss what is required to accomplish this. If you are interested in updating your covenants please call BF or Gwen Adams at (505) 987-2552.
A motion was made by Fran Trendler and second by Suzie Sims to adjourn. The motion passed. The meeting adjourned approximately 11:10 a.m. The next meeting will be Saturday, August 13th at 10:00 a.m. in the Timberon Community Center. Copies of the minutes are available at the meetings. We encourage you to attend and give us your input. Meeting notices are posted at several locations in the community. These are public meetings and everyone is invited to attend.
Respectfully submitted,
Jackie Fioretti, Secretary
