(Washington, DC) – House Republican Policy Chair Luke Messer (R-Ind), a member of the House Leadership, will discuss governing and issues in election year 2016 at a National Press Club Newsmakers news conference Tuesday, February 16 at 10AM. The event is open to credentialed media and Club members and will be in the Zenger Room, National Press Club, 13th Floor, 529 14th Street, NW (14th and F Streets NW). Cong. Messer’s opening statement will be followed by questions and answers in the one-hour event.
Messer is the Congressman for Indiana's 6th Congressional District, a large 19-county region. He was elected to Congress in 2012 and established himself as an emerging leader. In his first term, he was elected President of the Freshman Class by his peers. In his 2nd term, he was elected House Republican Policy Chair – a Conference ranking position. He also serves on the House Financial Services and House Education & Workforce committees where he works on issues ranging from K-12 education to banking reform. He is Chair of the School Choice Caucus.
Prior to Congress, Messer served as an Indiana State Legislator, led a not-for-profit as President and CEO, and was partner in two law firms. He graduated summa cum laude & Phi Beta Kappa from Wabash College and earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University where he served on the Law Review.
He and his wife Jennifer are the parents of two daughters, one son, and he likes to add, two dogs. Luke and his wife are also the author and illustrator of a children's book about Indiana entitled "Hoosier Heart." An ex-middle linebacker who at both Greensburg High School and Wabash College, he remains a youth sports coach and an avid Colts fan.
