NORTH LANCASHIRE ROAD CLUB

NEWSLETTER September 2012

Although it appeared in theory to be a good idea, distributing the Newsletter by email has proved not to be as workable as we had visualised and led to a large number of members missing out on the last letter.

We have decided that rather than go through individual distribution the Newsletter will appear as a page of the website where hopefully it can be read by anyone accessing the site; but not, I must stress, on the forum.

Members who have indicated that they want a hard copy will still, of course, have one posted to their home.

Our membership level currently stands at 110 which is pretty high considering that 11 of our old members have not rejoined. This figure includes 8 ladies and 2 junior members (one male one female).

The figure of 110 includes several new members who have joined the club very recently. They are the only people in the club who don’t need to remember that fees will be due for payment at the beginning of next month, as they have already paid for next year. Everyone else please endeavour to pay on time.

Liability Form

Along with the new Handbook which was sent out to each existing member there was a Liability Form to sign and return. At my latest count 29 members who have signed no other liability statement have not returned the form. For better or worse, we operate in the modern world and the Club Committee feel it important that all members sign. New members will have completed the 2011/2012 Membership form, which includes the liability section and therefore do not need to sign a separate form. Some others, at the time of joining, have signed forms dated from 2008 to 2011. These forms contained the Liability statement, although missing is a section on supplying assistance at events.

Club Clothing

The latest order for clothing should by now have been delivered. Please Contact Bob on 01282 438295 with any new requirements. He holds a very small amount of stock but is always working towards his next order.

Presentation Club Dinner

This year’s Dinner has been booked for the evening of the 10th November at the Oak Royal Golf & Country Club at Withnell arriving at 7pm for a meal at 7.30pm.

Presenting the awards will be

Mick Black of Cleveleys Road Club. Mick won the VTTA (North Lancs and Lakes) 2011 Best All Rounder award.

Tickets are subsidised by the club and are excellent value at £15.00 each. They will be available from

Mal Gill, Harry Haseley or

Mike Addis and we have a maximum of 70 tickets for sale. We have to pay for the event in advance which means that each ticket will have to be paid for at the time of ordering. There is a printable order form at the end of this letter so that tickets can be ordered. Please include a stamped addressed envelope with your order form and cheque.

Now is the time for Trophy Holders to hand back the trophies leaving enough time before the dinner for them to be engraved etc.

They should be handed back to Mike Addis, whose address is in the Handbook

AGM

This will take place on November 7th at the Dog and Otter in Great Harwood with a start time of 8pm. Please make the effort to attend. We have a large membership and the more are there the more representative any decisions made.

Please remember that any proposals to be debated and any nominations of officials should be given to me (Bill Auld) at least one week before the meeting.

25 Mile Club Championship

This will take place with the NLTTA Combined Clubs 25 TT on September 30th.

Entries must be with Dave Brown no later than the 15th. They should be sent to Dave’s Clayton-le-Dale address which is in the Handbook.

He will need a Name and Address, an email address (if there is one) and the £3.00 entry fee. Dave will email out start sheets to all entrants.

Evening 10s

The series of Evening 10 mile Time Trials has had another popular and successful season due in no small way to organiser Harry Haseley. The League was won by Paul Taylor with 194 points.

The Malcolm Eccles Trophy is competed for at the end of the Evening Tens series and is a competition between NLRC and Rossendale RC based on two 10 mile TTs; Round 1 at Hapton Round 2 at Edisford.

This year the inter club competition was won by Rossendale RC with

6-04

Although no firm decision has been made there is a move to run two of the Evening 10s on a different and possibly faster course during the next racing season as a test of it’s viability.

Future Open Events

Next season we will be sticking with our usual three Open Time Trials.

Circuit of Pendle

Organiser Pete Briscoe

Easter 10

New Organiser Mark Bateman

Nick o’ Pendle Hill Climb

Organiser Mike Addis

Decisions on future Road Races have still to be made.

Ladies BAR

In a bid to open the Ladies Best All Rounder up to more competition it has been decided to remove the 100 mile TT. The trophy will be therefore awarded for rides of 10, 25 & 50 rather than 25, 50 & 100 and hopefully more ladies will enter.
