POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Manager is responsible for designing and managing the implementation, operations, and evaluation of strategic programs or functions within AFCH/UWHC to improve the clinical, operational, and financial outcomes associated with the care of the pediatric trauma population. Responsibilities include designing communication to internal and external stakeholders, coordinating reports and statistics to improve programmatic performance. The Program Manager analyzes and researches programs and drafts business plans as needed. Additionally, the incumbent completes and oversees applications for external awards including but not limited to verification for level I Trauma by the American College of Surgeons.
The Trauma Program Manager is considered a technical expert in the field of pediatric trauma and is responsible for overseeing management of this highly complex patient population and program. Activities associated with the Pediatric Trauma management role has organizational, local, regional, state, and national wide impact. Additionally, the Trauma Program Manager is responsible for directing, evaluating, and providing feedback to professional level employees who participate in the operations of the trauma program. The Trauma Program Managers will direct the work of other employees, occasionally from multiple cost centers and are responsible for communication of resource needs across multiple departments.
This individual reports directly to the American Family Children’s Hospital Director of Pediatric Nursing and Clinical Services and in direct collaboration with the Pediatric Trauma Medical Director. This individual also collaborates closely with the Adult Trauma Program Manager, Adult Nursing Director, Adult Trauma Medical Director, and other Directors across the organization as appropriate to improve clinical, operational, and financial outcomes.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership
· Develops and establishes operational and strategic goals and objectives consistent with the American College of Surgeons, Division of Trauma and UWHC medical direction including a Performance Improvement and Patient Safety program.
· Serve as Technical expert in Pediatric Trauma program development.
· Provide guidance to all employees involved in program.
· Serve as manager for direct reports as appropriate.
· Provide performance feedback on program employees to applicable managers.
· Manage as appropriate, the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the trauma program.
· Serve as a liaison to administration, and represent the trauma program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster optimal trauma care management.
· Evaluate and report to departmental/organizational senior management on status and changes in program.
· Lead activities at the organizational, community, regional, state, and national levels that positively impact outcomes related to the care of the Trauma population.
· Mentor other healthcare professionals in the care of the Trauma population.
Service Delivery
· Oversees strategic and operational projects as it relates to the trauma program.
· Provide for intra-facility and regional professional staff development, participate in case review, design and implement practice guidelines, support community trauma education, and collaborates with the prevention program leaders.
· Role models service excellence in interactions with internal and external constituents.
· Establishes a strong cooperative relationship with applicable leaders by providing the information, tools and services necessary to improve the outcomes associated with the Trauma Program.
· Stabilize the complex network of many disciplines that work in concert to provide high-quality care.
· Serve as an internal resource for staff in all departments, and act as an extended liaison for emergency medical services agencies.
Communication
· Designs and orchestrates the delivery of applicable communication to internal and external constituents.
· Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication using a variety of methodologies.
· Coordinates presentations and ensures consistent communication related to the Trauma Program.
· Translates data and information into meaningful stories related to strategic aspects of the Trauma Program.
Operational Improvement
· Oversees collection and utilization of operational and benchmarking data to recommend targets for improvements.
· Prepares appropriate reports and statistics, and conducts surveys in order to evaluate departmental operational and fiscal performance.
· Participates in the review of program processes. Recommends and participates in implementation of process improvements. Monitors and measures process changes.
· Facilitates cross-functional performance improvement teams.
· Researches industry best practices and recommends process improvements to leadership.
· Reviews and recommends policies that support the direction of the program.
Resource Management
· Reviews all capital budget requests and ensures their readiness for approval and processing.· Monitors capital expenditures against budget and regularly reconciles with purchasing and fiscal.
· Works collaboratively with the Adult Trauma Manager to prepare and manage the annual operational budget for the Trauma program.
· Monitors and reports operational financial management by monthly analysis of actual versus budgeted operating margins in assigned areas and for the Human Resources department.
· Supervise collections, coding, scoring, and developing processes for validation of data. Design the registry to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports, and research while protecting confidentiality.
Strategic Planning
· Program leader for Pediatric Trauma works collaboratively with appropriate stakeholders to develop the strategic plan and market the Trauma Program both internally and externally.
· In accordance with the American College of Surgeons for a Level 1 Trauma Center establishes process monitoring systems, tracks performance, and adjusts the plan as needed to ensure outcomes are met.
· Researches and synthesizes operational and benchmarking best practices, and prepares reports, proposals, and business plans as indicated.
· Develops processes to assure timely communications to stakeholders about the status of projects being planned or implemented.
Recognition
· Researches, analyzes, and recommends opportunities for external recognition.
· Manages the process and completes applications for external recognition.
· Coordinates content for external recognition applications with operational leaders throughout UWHC.
Research
· Be involved in research projects, analysis, and distribution of findings. Facilitate protocol design for accurate data collection, feedback, and analysis.
Miscellaneous
· Responsible for other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education /
Minimum
/ Masters Degree in Nursing or Related FieldPreferred

/ 5 years experience directly working with trauma patients and at least 1 year of pediatric nursing experience in an inpatient or emergency department setting.Preferred
