Statement: I have proudly served you as Senator and Representative since 1993. My purpose has always been to represent and serve my constituents. I am a recognized leader in the Legislature on workforce issues and training, retirement and pension issues, and ‘fair share’ issues to ensure equitable distribution of correction facilities in our state. I secured state funding for many projects in our district including Pierce County Skills Center, Star Center in South Tacoma, Wapato Lake Restoration, Garfield Street Renovation.

I have always stood with law enforcement and firefighters on public safety issues. I also have supported our military, national guard, and honored veterans, both introducing and sponsoring legislation to help our veterans in transitioning to employment. I believe strongly in the need to fully fund our schools and colleges. We must also invest in our transportation infrastructure to build jobs in Pierce County.

As a Senator, I have received the following recognition: Outstanding Legislator, Washington Department of Veterans Affairs(2011), Senate Legislator of the Year, Washington State Labor Council(2011), McNaughton Leadership Award, Independent Colleges of Washington(2012)

Statement: Pierce County’s unemployment is not going down, this is unacceptable. People create jobs, not the government. We need a new direction for Washington State. We need to help small businesses create jobs and get our friends and neighbors back to work. Let’s lighten taxes and regulations on them so they can grow and start hiring again.

Let’s support Innovative Learning and great teachers and pay them well. The Legislature must support reform, not cut funding for inventive programs in which our children have a chance to thrive.

I Support our Military Men and Women. My two sons are Army Reservists and I am so thankful to all who serve and have served. I will do everything in my power to support our brave warriors and their families.

I will do everything in my power to support our local police officers and enact tougher laws that they need to keep our neighborhoods safe. Unless we fix the major chokepoints on your highways, our economy will not grow, for example I-5 along Joint Base Lewis/ McChord and the cross base highway project. I will work to prioritize transportation dollars to increasing mobility on our roads.
