DEPARTMENT:Immigrant Services
POSITION TITLE:Summer Support Staff
QUALIFICATIONS: Attending post-secondary school in the area of psychology, social work or relevant discipline is preferred. Experience working with newcomers is highly desirable. Experience working with children and volunteers is also an asset. All candidates will be required to be enrolled as a fulltime Post-Secondary student (College, University, CEGEP, Technical Institute). Proof of enrollment for the fall 2014 semester is required. All candidates will be required to obtain a Police Record Check and a Child Intervention Record Check.
Applicants must be a Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen.
SUPERVISOR:Program Director
ALTERNATE SUPERVISOR: Manager of Settlement Programs, Youth Based Program or Community Connections Volunteer Program depending on area worked.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:To provide support to various programs at LFS-Immigrant Services.
KEY OBJECTIVES:
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting Settlement and Enhance Life Skills practitioners with orientation and settlement services.
- Assisting Administration staff with office duties such as filing, data entry, etc.
- Assisting Youth Based practitioners with B.A.S.E Camp planning and activities. (B.A.S.E. (Brothers and Sisters in English) Camp is a summer camp for newly arrived permanent resident children in grades 1-5. The camp’s main focus is to allow for the practice and maintenance of English skills acquired over the school year while also developing social skills that will assist with integration into the larger community, within a fun and playful setting.)
- Assisting the Community Connections Volunteer Program Practitioner with various aspects of the volunteer process.
- Assisting the Community Connections Volunteer Program with their annual summer picnic.
- Other tasks in each program as the need arises.
PERFORM JOB IN A SAFE MANNER
Incumbent will carry out their work in a manner that will not create a hazard to their own health and safety. He/she will be active participants in all Agency Safety processes and maintain a safe work environment. The incumbent will be knowledgeable about potential hazards associated with his/her job duties identified on the Hazard assessment and will participate annually in reviewing/revising the Hazard Assessment for his/her position.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
The incumbent shall be a team member within the LFS-IS program. S/he will work cooperatively with staff and supervisor. S/he will demonstrate courtesy and patience when dealing with agency clients and its partners. S/he will communicate concerns of daily activities and key objectives to his/her supervisor.
