Liaison Mental Health Services into Acute Hospitals

Bowes Lyon Unit, Earls House Hospital, Lanchester Road, Durham City, Co Durham, DH1 5RD

Service is Nurse led and is hospital based, with a base in each locality. The team does not provide input into hospices or community hospitals, and are not able to routinely cover Accident & Emergency Departments. Out of hours service provided by on call psychiatry service. Holiday and sickness cover is provided by Consultant Psychiatrists.

Older People's Mental Health Carers Forum

Broadcasting House, Gilkes Street, Middlesbrough, TS1 5JA

The group meets to provide support to carers and can be a focus to service improvement. Meets last Friday of the month at the Carers Centre, Gilkes Street, Middlesbrough. The Carers Centre is open 9am - 5pm, and contact for the forum can be reached through this number. However the forum only meets monthly.

Intermediate Care Service (Middlesbrough)

The aim of the service is to prevent unnecessary admission and promote early discharge. 21 bedded short stay (max stay 6 weeks) rehab unit.

Support Services Older Person's Group

Phoenix Project (Middlesbrough), 190 Borough Road, , Middlesbrough, TS1 2EH

Activities in the community begin and end as required. Activities are suggested by service users, set up by paid co-ordinator, run by volunteers and service users with support. Some users have SMI while others have no diagnosed mental health problems, but have identified the need for social contact. Service primarily for those with functional illness, but other illness are not excluded. Activities include craft classes, carpet bowls, holiday club, outings, walking group, lunch club, etc. Maths and English classes also ran and facilitated by Stockton Riverside College.
