He married CATHERINE UNKNOWN Abt. 1747 in Anson County, North Carolina. She was born Abt. 1722, and died Abt. 1777 in Rowan County, North Carolina.
Notes for HANS BERNHARD KNOY:
Hans Bernhard Knoy was listed in his parents will of May 10, 1766, as gone to the New Lands. No claim has been found by him or his heirs on their estate. It is believed that he entered America at Charleston, South Carolina and traveled north to Anson County, where the rich farmland was free and available.
The first documented record of Hans Bernhard in America is the birth of his second child, Phillip Knoy 2nd, on March 8, 1750. The second documented record that has been found is a December 7, 1752 land entry for James Stewart in Anson (later Rowan) County, North Carolina. The document describes the land as adjoining the land of Henry Knoy (Hans) and Robert Tate. It was located in the Fourth Creek Settlement which became Rowan County in 1753. Currently the Fourth Creek Settlement is in Iredell County which was organized from Rowan in 1788. It is located a few miles north of Statesville, North Carolina. The North Carolina Archives has no records of a land entry to Hans Bernhard, but advised that their records did not begin until 1748 and that many homesteaders occupied their land before 1748.
After claiming and clearing the land, he farmed it using his many years of experience on his parents farm. May of his neighbors were German and still spoke the language among themselves. Land grants were begun in 1752 in the Fourth Creek and many homesteaders moved over to the present Davidson County, North Carolina area. Hans moved his family to the Abbotts Creek area near the old Pilgrims Church and occupied 1010 acres on both sides of Abbotts Creek. No record is found of Hans after the November 1776 Pilgims Church record of his son Jacob's baptism. So it is estimated he may have died in 1777.

On October 4, 1821, he bought 56 acres adjoining his property from George Myers. His land was in the Rich Fork-Abbotts Creek area.
Several of George's friends moved to Morgan County, Indiana before 1829. They were the Shulers, Myers, Lingles, Sechrists and others. Through them George learned of the fertile farm lands, the abundant streams and good hunting. In 1829, George and his entire family made the long wagon trip to Morgan County. He bought land in Ray Township, later Ashland Township in Section 24. He settled there and remained in that location for the rest of his life.

Notes for MARTIN L. DUNIGAN:
Was hospitalized at sometime and became addicted to morphine. He would walk from Paragon to Martinsville to get his medication
Aunt Nannie told me that someone had told George Anne while she was in nurses training that they had known Martin, and he was a very good person and would do anything for you to help and that he would walk for long distances.
Another story Aunt Nannie told me was that once when Uncle Earl and Uncle Hubert were small, Martin, their Grandpa, had to take them out to the barn. She couldn't recall why (Uncle Jim told her the story) but one of them had done something wrong and the guilty party wouldn't confess. He had the boys face the far wall with their backs to him and he held a corn cob in his hand. He told the boys he was going to throw the corncob and it would hit whoever was guilty. He pretended to throw it and Uncle Hubert ducked. Guess who was guilty. Martin must have been a very wise man.
