HA3201 review
I’m not going to get into any thing technical about this model or any model for that matter. I’m looking for something that is visually appealing, a good paint and markings application and parts that fit well. Just the general things most average collectors will look for and appreciate. I’ll leave any technical points of view up to others.
This model is almost entirely metal except for the vertical and horizontal stabilizers, the canopies, the doors for the landing gear in the up position, the propellers and the 3 crew members. This model is about 95% metal so if you want die-cast metal you will get it with the A-26.
The canopies are nice clear plastic without distortion. Both canopies lift off and allow you to seat your crew into the fairly well done cockpits. The instrumentation is good and has gauges and switches.
The propellers spin nice and freely and don’t have wobble or prop droop. Another nice working feature of this model is both turrets actually swivel. If you choose to have the bomb bay open you simply have to use the one piece insert into the belly. There are 4 bombs fastened inside the bomb bay. To close the bomb bay just pull the insert out and replace with the belly door. The landing gear is used or removed in the same quick simple manner of inserting a complete unit. The landing gear struts are metal with the doors being plastic. All wheels are rubber and roll.
The paint is up to the high standards we have come to expect from Hobby Master and nobody does chrome or polished bare metal finishes like Hobby Master. They really are Masters at all their finishes but in particular this type. The markings are tampoed exquisitely, crisp and sharp without any errors.
Perched high atop the stand that is provided this is one awesome looking aircraft. I used to see an A-26 for about two – three months a year and I had forgotten how large this aircraft is. This is one very impressive model aircraft. I think Hobby Master has come up with a winning mold and if the first release is any indication of things to come we will be in for a lot of great paint schemes on a great aircraft.
