The Royal Court is the home of the English Stage Company Limited (ESC) and is the UK’s leading theatre dedicated to new writing.

Up to 16 plays a year are staged between two theatre spaces (the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs and the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs) at the Royal Court’s home on Sloane Square. Over 100,000 people visit the Royal Court every year and over 100,000 more see our work elsewhere, including transfers to the West End and New York, National and International touring, online projects and London residencies in Tottenham and Pimlico.

A significant amount of play development activity takes place year-round. This work aims to find and nurture the most talented new writers and develop the highest quality plays, for which the Royal Court is internationally renowned. There is an ongoing programme of writers’ attachments, readings, workshops and playwriting groups.

The Royal Court Theatre also has two commercial subsidiaries, Royal Court Theatre Productions Ltd (RCTP), which facilitates the transfer of Royal Court productions to the West End and ESC Catering Limited set up to run the catering operation at the theatre.

MAIN PURPOSE:

The Royal Court is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to work as a Marketing Assistant at the Royal Court. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to start a career in arts marketing.

Sitting within the busy communications department, this role will support marketing and digital media campaigns across all productions and provide essential administrative support to the team with on the job training, offering meaningful experiences and responsibilities that contribute to the aims of the organisation as well as ongoing professional development.

The assistant will play a pivotal role in the smooth running and success of the department – supporting the marketingand audience developmentof all Royal Court plays and activities through a variety of administrative tasks.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing & Digital

  • Update the RCT website using the content management system
  • Resize images and designing e-flyers as required using Photoshop
  • Social networks: being the voice of the RCT on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other networks
  • Generating ideas for expansion of Royal Court’s social media following
  • Reporting on online activity and keeping up-to-date with new technologies and new media strategies
  • Filming and editing ‘vox pops’ and video interviews
  • Creating newsletters/emails using Dotmailer (integrated with our box office system, Spektrix)
  • Analysis of data and reports using CRM system Spektrix
  • Assisting with organisation and filming of trailers and online content
  • Managing pre- and post-show email communication with RC audiences
  • Support the Marketing Officer in the promotion of the RCT’s accessible performances, including maintaining email communication with the access database and production of accessible marketing assets.
  • Design and coordination of cast sheets for each show

Campaign research

  • Detailed research and compilation of databases of relevant target audiences for each show
  • Contacting and communicating with relevant groups by phone and email
  • Setting up promotions with organisations and networks
  • Copywriting direct mail and targeted emails

General Administration

  • Ensuring Front of House leaflet displays are topped up and presentable
  • Assist in keeping the office tidy and help with the department’s filing
  • Fulfilling mailings
  • Carry out research tasks for all members of the department as required
  • To assess all stationery requests and maintain department stores
  • Work with the team to adhere to the company’s recycling policy

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Candidates must be 18 years or over
  • An interest in theatre
  • Demonstrable/practical digital skills and an interest in digital culture
  • Enthusiastic and outgoing team worker with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude and a flexible approach to working patterns
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Computer literate, familiar with PCs and Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to act with discretion and confidentiality
  • Basic Photoshop skills desirable

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

Title of post:Marketing Assistant

Hours: Standard 40 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend work.

Contract:1 year fixed term, subject to 3 months’ probation

Salary: £20,280 per annum (current London Living Wage).

Holiday entitlement:20 days per year, plus 8 days for statutory holidays.
