Prayer of the Week
Dear Heavenly Father, I seek your counsel, I invoke your spirit, Help me discern, as nothing escapes your sight. Guide me Lord. Give me a healthy spirit, a clear eye and wisdom. Help me identify, any presence of the enemy, trying to tempt or trap me, into the sin of pride or vanity. Set me free of my flesh, so that I may see with the eyes of Christ. Let me identify the spirit, behind any choices, I must make. May your Holy Spirit fill me, and take control, so that I only need, to walk in obedience. For you alone are holy, you are my sovereign Lord, and all my decisions, must glorify you, and your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. In His sweet and holy name, Amen.

Announcements
National PreparednessMonth
September is the first month of fall, when most of the kids head back to school, and our traditional month when we celebrate preparedness. Due to the success of last year’s theme, “Don’t Wait, Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today,” the Department of Homeland Security will be returning this September with a continuing emphasis on preparedness for youth- especially teens, older adults, and people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs. We're excited about the opportunity to help you and your family learn more about emergencies and how to be prepared whenever or wherever they strike.
As is the tradition, each week of National Preparedness Month has a designated theme:
•Week 1 (August 28-September 3): Promote National Preparedness Month
•Week 2 (September 4-10): Preparing Family and Friends
•Week 3 (September 11-17): Preparing Through Service
•Week 4 (September 18-24): Individual Preparedness
•Week 5 (September 25-30): Lead-up to National PrepareAthon! Day
More information about each of these themes is available on Ready.gov/september, where you can also find social media content, 2016 NPM logo, graphics, and more to share with your friends and family.

Sunday School Lectionary
Today, August 21, 2016, the Adult Class covered Romans 11, “Grafted In”.
Central Thought: Even as we remember God’s mercy, we should fear His wrath no matter our background. God can graft in-and prune awayanyone. May hearts be softened to hear the truth about Jesus.
Key Verse: Romans 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. Classes are offered for children and adults. Deas. Wandra Brown is the children’s teacher and Sis. Sharon Malone is the teacher for adults.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT SECOND BAPTIST
The history of Second Baptist Church is based upon our faith in God and the spiritual evolution of the Groups i.e. boards, auxiliaries, clubs, groups and organizations within that institution. The richness of that history may be defined by the dedication and commitment of our members and their willingness to grow and change with the needs of our membership and those of the Greater Washington community. It is written that "Christian Education as an organized process which provides the community of faith opportunities to grow, to explore theological and societal understandings of the history and traditions of our faith."Education distributes literature, guided by the Bible, which is the curriculum for the study of information with its implications for the Christian lifestyle.
At Second Baptist Christian Education plays an intricate and active role in the religious life of this branch of zion. Deaconess Wandra W. Brown serves as our Director of Christian Education.
