SubjectProgress Report on NCDA Web Pages
______
INTRODUCTION
On October 15, 2004, I was assigned the Web site project for the Northern California Dental Association (NCDA) to provide information and a directory of association dental services available in the area. This is the first of the monthly progress reports and, as such, provides an update on phase 1.
Phase 1—Design
- Meet with NCDA personnel and design the Web site based on their input
Phase 2--Content
- Gather information for the pages and adapt it to fit Web format
- Create links
- Meet with NCDA personnel to get feedback on the content
Phase 3—Revision
- Revise and field test the Web site
I have now completed Phase 1 and believe that the project will stay on schedule and be completed as anticipated.
Discussion
Work Completed
Phase 1 focused on:
- designing the NCDA Web site
- involved meeting with NCDA personnel
- designing the site
- revising the site based on a second set of meetings with NCDA personnel
Initial Meeting
- I met with Dr. Harold Plano; he’s the NCDA Vice President.
- I met with Lydia Markolis; she’s the Public Relations Director.
- Renee Ahmed, Project Manager.
- I met with all of the above people to discuss their ideas for their Web site.
- We discussed their intended audience and the purpose the site will serve.
- I sketched out a basic plan as we discussed their ideas.
- I also planned a preliminary site map to suit their needs and adapted well to a Web site.
- I later met with Renee to get a copy of the NCDA logo.
- I also asked her for more specific information about the content for each page.
Designing the Web Site
- I spent the next two weeks developing the site map.
- I redesigned the NCDA logo to fit a Web format.
- I designed a basic template and color scheme to unify the pages in the site.
- I created all of the pages needed for the Web site.
Second Meeting
- I met with Lydia Markolis to present the site map, revised logo, and sample pages.
- I also met with Renee Ahmed, Project Manager to present the site map, revised logo, and sample pages.
- They suggested some minor changes on the revised logo
- They also asked to delete one of the pages and add two others.
Revisions
The revisions Lydia Markolis and Renee Ahmed suggested were easily made on the Web pages.
Work Remaining
To complete the Web site for NCDA, I need to accomplish the remaining two phases, one month per phase.
Phase 2:
- Researching and gathering information for the pages,
- Getting extensive lists of doctors and their contact information is the next task.
- Once I have Web page content information, I need to adapt the content to fit Web format.
- I need to place the basic content on the pages themselves; this will be the biggest task.
- I need to finish linking all the pages.
- With this done, I will meet with NCDA personnel to receive feedback.
Phase 3:
- Revising the Web site for content and format will be the first step in the last phase.
- Revising the Web site for content will be based on meetings with NCDA.
- The NCDA personnel have agreed to field-test the Web site for one week.
- Any final changes will be made after that.
Problems Encountered
- So far the project has gone smoothly.
- Renee Markolis was unable to meet at our scheduled time.
- We rescheduled for three days later.
- This slight delay was absorbed in the remaining weeks.
- Phase 1 was completed on schedule.
Conclusion
- The project is one-third completed in the actual tasks.
- Also one-third of the scheduled time has elapsed.
- I anticipate the remaining portion of the project to continue on schedule.
- Everything will be on schedule if the extensive lists of doctors and their contact information are complete.
- We agreed the lists should be double-checked by NCDA personnel.
