Auditions will be during lunch, 7th period, and after school

August 16 through August 24, 2017 in the Band Room at CHIS (D126).

There will be 3 “jazz workshop days” during 7th period on August 14, 15 and 16.

Saxophones, Trumpets, and Trombones:

1. Play the Concert Bb and Concert Eb Major Scales by memory.

2. Play the chromatic scale from the lowest note you know to the highest you can play. (You may use a scale sheet or fingering chart to help!)

3. Play the first 36 measures of the audition song (Evening Stroll) at a steady tempo. (It is from First Place for Jazz by Dean Sorenson. – You can listen to it and practice with it using a subscription to Smart Music. 4. Play another song of your choice in any style.

Bass Guitar:

1. Demonstrate your ability to tune the strings (with or without using a tuner).

2. Play the Concert Bb and Concert Eb Major Scales by memory.

4. Walk the bass line for a blues progression in the key of Bb or F.

5. Play another song of your choice in any style.

Electric Guitar:

1. Demonstrate your ability to tune the strings (with or without using a tuner).

2. Play by memory the Concert Bb and Concert Eb Major Scales by memory.

4. Play another song of your choice in any style.

Piano:

1. Play the Concert Bb, Concert Eb, and Concert Ab Major Scales by memory using both hands together. Please use correct fingerings for each scale.

1. Play all of the "DRUMS Basic Beats for jazz”. Repeat each beat 1 time.

2. Play any rock beat for 7 measures and play a 1-measure drum fill and repeat.
