Project Coordinator and Lead Child and Family Advocate / Contractual Position

Position Overview:
The Child and Family Advocate is part of the Greensboro Child Response Initiative Team. CRI provides a coordinated community response to children and families who have been exposed to trauma and violence. CRI advocates provide trauma-informed advocacy services to children/families who have experienced trauma and violence to ensure that basic needs, safety concerns, and social and emotional needs are all addressed. In addition to providing services to children/families and assist with coordination of victim services and victim compensation, the Lead CRI Specialized MH advocate will serve as the project team leader who is responsible for daily program management, coordination of CRI team meeting and the trauma provider network meetings, monitoring service utilization, and being a liaison with the law enforcement agencies to process referrals for child crime victims.
The position will be filled immediately upon notification of grant award. It is estimated that this position will be approximately 40 hours per week (specific hours determined during the process).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads a team of child and family advocates that liaison with the families to get them connected to behavioral health services and various community resources throughout the City of Greensboro
- Works within a division of the Greensboro Police Department and interacts daily with law enforcement officers, who make referrals to the advocate for families to follow up with
- Leads data collection efforts and coordination of data entry across advocates
- Provides child and family advocacy services to individuals referred
- Plans, implements, and coordinates outreach, community education, and planning
- Assists with the development of CRI materials
- Attends all project meetings and Trauma Provider Network meetings, including the planning, set up, take down and implementation
- Conducts community outreach activities as needed
- Office tasks as needed (copying, collating, etc.)
- Advocates should be comfortable working with a diverse population of individuals
- Comfortable working in interdisciplinary team, yet also working independently
- Dependable and accountable
- Other duties as assigned
It is expected that all CRI advocates actively participate in the planning, preparation, set-up, delivery, and take-down of any CRI outreach activities, and are encouraged to actively participate in activities and outreach events sponsored by the Kellin Foundation.
The majority of advocacy with families is done by phone but face-to-face interactions happen as well so advocates should be comfortable working in different settings (homes, community centers, schools, etc.). Advocates are assisted by law enforcement officers whenever home-visits are done. Advocates may also be asked to work out of the CRI office at the Family Justice Center which requires face-to-face interaction with families in need of services. CRI Advocates should be comfortable with interpersonal communication as well as being organized and efficient at administrative duties such as data entry and record-keeping, which are both required as tracking mechanisms of CRI referrals received.
Supervisory: This position is supervised by the Clinical Supervisor.
Personal Qualities: Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, evidence of coordination of complex systems, strong ability to multi-task on multi-component projects, experience with data entry and management a plus, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, must be dependable and accountable
Position Structure: Full-time, contractual position through September 30, 2019, with strong likelihood of continuation
Travel: Local travel for project team meetings
Salary: Salary commensurate upon experience.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s Preferred) in a Human Services Field, with minimum of 2 years of experience in the behavioral health field.
