Tests

There will be three to four regular tests during the semester and a comprehensive final exam after the term is completed. The grading of test problems will be based on the following set of standards: proper use of notation and technique, proper use of diagrams, properly showing all relevant steps of the solution, proper use of units, and proper use of techniques that are prerequisites of this course. There will be no make-up for the regular tests. If you miss a regular test and have a very good reason (with documentation) for having to miss it, then you may be allowed at the instructor’s discretion to count the final exam grade in place of that test grade.

Final Exam

The final exam will be comprehensive and will be based primarily on material covered on the regular tests. For this reason, it will be extremely important for you to review all of your old tests. You should look carefully over each test as soon as you get it back and make sure that you understand how to solve any of the problems that you happen to have missed. Don’t wait until the final exam to make corrections because by this time there will a considerable amount of material just to review and you will not have much time to spare attempting to master ideas and techniques that you should have learned earlier in the semester.

Grading Scheme

Test Average 75%

Final Exam 25%

Attendance

Students are expected to attend all classes for which they are registered. Students who are unable to attend class regularly, regardless of the reason or circumstance, should withdraw from that class before poor attendance interferes with the student’s ability to achieve the objectives required in the course. Withdrawal from class can affect eligibility for federal financial aid.

Statement on Discrimination/Harassment

The College and the Alabama State Board of Education are committed to providing both employment and educational environments free of harassment or discrimination related to an individual’s race, color, gender, religion, national origin, age, or disability. Such harassment is a violation of State Board of Education policy. Any practice or behavior that constitutes harassment or discrimination will not be tolerated.

Americans with Disabilities

The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 state that qualified students with disabilities who meet the essential functions and academic requirements are entitled to reasonable accommodations. It is the student’s responsibility to provide appropriate disability documentation to the College.
