Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
COURSE JOINING INFORMATION

Thank you for signing up for this course. To ensure that you have a pleasant and fruitful learning experience in the Civil Defence Academy, we have prepared this Course Joining Information to help you prepare for the course. Please take a few moments to read the information below.

1 Venue : CPR Room, Civil Defence Academy

2 Duration : 1 Day

3 Time : 0800 hrs to 1730 hrs

4 Aim

This course is designed to train and certify members of the public in the life saving skills of Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) in accordance with the guidelines stipulated by the National Resuscitation Council (NRC).

5 Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, participants must be able to describe and perform the one-rescuer CPR, 2 rescuer CPR, conscious to unconscious adult airway obstruction, infant CPR and infant airway obstruction modules for the certification.

6 Getting to CDA

If you are taking public transport, Bus No. 172 plies from Boon Lay Bus Terminal (next to Boon Lay MRT Station) to the Academy. You are advised to be at the Bus Terminal by 0715 hrs to avoid the morning crowd.

If you are driving, please ensure that you park your car at Carpark B or any other designated parking areas as directed by the provost on duty. You are encouraged to car-pool due to the limited parking space in the Academy.

7 Reporting & Attendance

The course will begin at 0800hrs sharp. You are advised to report at CPR Room, Civil Defence Academy, at least 5 minutes before the programme commences. Please confirm your particulars as given in the Attendance Register and sign your attendance before the course begins. Please be reminded to be punctual for all training sessions.

8 Time Off / Reporting Sick

You are required to attend all the training sessions as stipulated in the training programme. Leave and/or time off will not be granted during the course. Urgent leave application due to unforeseen circumstances can be directed to the Course Administrator. Trainees who are unwell should inform their Course Administrator.

9 Attire

The attire for the course is smart casual. Shorts, slippers and sandals are not allowed to be worn during lessons. Collared T-shirts, long pants/ jeans and sports shoes are recommended as the course will involve some physical activity.

10 Security Pass

You are required to put on the security pass, which will be issued at the beginning of the course. The pass is to be returned at the end of the course. An administrative fee of S$20.00 will be levied for the replacement of any misplaced pass.

11 Letter of Indemnity

You will be required to sign a Letter of Indemnity to absolve SCDF and the Singapore Government from any legal proceeding due to injury or loss/damage of person and/or personal belonging respectively.

12 Safety Precautions

You are to observe and comply strictly with all the safety regulations and the safety pledge.

13 Use of Handphones & Pagers

You are requested to put your hand phone and pager to silent mode and respond to calls only during breaks so as not to disrupt the class.

14 Cleanliness

Please help to maintain the cleanliness of the various training areas and amenities during the course, for your own comfort as well as those of other users/participants.

15 No Smoking

Smoking is strictly prohibited within the compound of the Academy. Possession of cigarettes and tobacco-related products within CDA is also banned. Offenders are liable to departmental disciplinary action or be fined up to a maximum of $500.00.

16 Loss/Damage

Please note that CDA will not be responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings at the Academy. You are advised to bring as little cash or valuables as possible.

17 Course Material

You will be issued with a set of course material and the training programme on the first day of the course. No portion of any material/documents is allowed to be reproduced by the participants and/or accessed by any unauthorised person.

18 Resource Library

The CDA Resource Library is located at Level 3 of the Basic Rescue Training Centre (BRTC). Its operating hours are:

Monday & Wednesday – 0800hrs to 1730hrs

Tuesday – 0800hrs to 1900hrs

Thursday – 0800hrs to 2000hrs

Friday – 0800hrs to 1700hrs

19 Certificate

Participants will be assessed on their performance during the course. The Certificate of Attendance will be awarded when attendance is 80% attained. Participants who are unable to complete any part of the course due to health or any medical condition will not be awarded any certificate.

20 Course Feedback

A debrief will be held at the end of this course to gather feedback for future improvements. Alternatively, you can offer your observations to us via the following channels:
