Job purpose
The post holder supports all the activities being carried out within the Liaison and Service Development team. The post holder will assist in a wide range of activities including marketing, communications, market research, data analysis, web content development and website analytics activity for the directorate. This includes liaising with other departments and third party suppliers as well as advising and guiding colleagues on the use of variety of communication channels. The post holder will help to ensure clear and consistent information is presented at all times through the most effective methods.A key role of this post is to ensure that students and staff are aware of our services and to support the team with the collection and analysis of customer feedback.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Requirements / Essential/Desirable
Qualifications / Good secondary education to A Levels or NVQ3 level qualification
A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Marketing, Publishing, Media, IT / Web. / E

Experience / Relevant experience in marketing, communications, publishing role Or Relevant experience in designing, maintaining and supporting websites
Experience of working in a Higher Education Institution / E

Knowledge, skills & abilities / Appreciation and knowledge of current trends and developments in Higher Education
Knowledge and understanding of role of marketing and communications
Awareness of the role of good design and web analytics in communication with staff and students
Excellent writing skills for a variety of audiences
Excellent organisation skills, a methodical approach and strict attention to detail
Excellent IT skills plus a good knowledge of word processing packages, spreadsheets, using Web CMS and email
Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to both listen and explain

Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Role
- To support all marketing, communications and web related activity within the directorate.
- To liaise with external and internal printing units and suppliers of promotional and marketing materials.
- To keep records of usage of materials and ensure supplies are available as needed.
- To ensure materials are distributed and displayed in line with requirements of the service.
- To assist on reviewing, updatingand managing the production of publications.
- To contribute towards measuring, collecting analysing and reporting on website use data for the purposes of understanding and optimising the directorate’s web services.
- To help with the maintenance ofa database of jobs referred to the Liaison and Service Development team.
- To assist the team in keep track of workloads and deadlines to ensure that jobs are completed on schedule.
- To carry out relevant administrative, organisational or financial tasks to support the team
- To support the management of user surveys as required.
- To develop mechanisms for promoting and publicising services, new developments and service enhancements.
- To assist with editing and managing the content of noticeboards, information screens, posters and signs.
- To assist with reviewing and updating the content of websites in close collaboration with other staff.
- To pursue an active programme of self-development with a continuing updating of skills and understanding of new technologies.
Working Environment
- To provide a professional and effective service to the Student Services directorate applying a detailed knowledge of marketing and web services and following guidelines and agreed procedures when advising colleagues.
- To contribute ideas in establishing working practices within the team and to strive to continuallyimprove the service provided to students.
Freedom to Act & Decision Making
- Prioritise own workload to ensure deadlines are met using skill and judgement within agreed priorities, using problem solving skills to identify and implement solutions; deciding on appropriate course of action; communicating effectively with colleagues; seeking guidance from other staff as required
- Use knowledge and experience to analyse and improve marketing and web activities.
- To decide, with minimal supervisory control, the urgency/importance of matters arising, taking appropriate action or referring this to relevant member of staff as appropriate.
- To provide advice and guidance on policies associated with the work of the team, using skill, judgement and reference to departmental and college procedures. Referring to senior colleagues as required.
Communication & Networking
- To contribute to the directorate’s communication with its users through user forums and surveys.
- Liaising with a range of internal contacts across the University to support the work of the team.
- Developing good working relationships with external suppliers such as designers, printers and other agencies.
- To liaise with other members of the directorate, Professional Services and College to ensure good communications.
- Liaise with suppliers and service providers to respond to queries arising as appropriate
Finance/Resource Management
- Manage the efficient use of resources within remit to ensure administrative activities are completed accurately and on time
- Offer input into the resource planning process to ensure finances are appropriately and efficiently managed
- Follows established procedures for ordering materials and services from approved suppliers
- Assists with the keeping records of usage statistics, financial transactions and other management information relevant to the work of the team
People Management
- Organise and prioritise own work activities within established routines or procedures and subject to minimal supervision, to support the achievements of work objectives
- On occasion may be required to oversee the work of project staff or student helpers
- Explains work practices and routines to new members of department
