Job Description
BUS DRIVER
JOB DESCRIPTION: Swink bus drivers will operate a school bus over designated routes to transport students in a safe and timely manner, and complete related work as required.
JOB GOALS: Provide safe transportation to and from schools and for activities.
REPORTS TO: The Transportation Director and/or Superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must like to work with children.
- Ability to maintain cooperative relationship with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to drive a school bus safely and efficiently.
- Ability to maintain order among students on a school bus.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Ability to maintain simple records.
- The ability to read and write at a level sufficient to fulfill the duties to be performed.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices.
- Knowledge of provisions of the Colorado Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles transporting school students.
- Be able to meet the requirements of the State Department of Motor Vehicles and the Colorado Department of Education.
- Possess a valid CDL driver’s license with school bus endorsement (SP-2)
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Possess or obtain, within 90 days after obtaining job, a CDE approved First Aid Certificate and Adult CPR card.
- Must pass fingerprinting, background check and worker’s comp enquires.
- Must pass DOT physical exam every two years and any Drug and Alcohol testing.
- Must pass driving performance test as part of the pre-service training and annually thereafter.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds.
- Ability to squat, bend and climb.

TASKS & DUTIES:
- Maintain the fluid levels in vehicles.
- Service bus with gas and oil, monitor tire pressure and battery.
- Complete daily pre and post businspections.
- Assist in maintaining bus in safe operating condition and advise transportation director of repairs needed.
- Clean windshields, headlights and interior of bus.
- Drive a bus over designated routes in accordance with prescribed schedules.
- Be alert and ready to drive.
- Pick up and discharge school children.
- Maintain a list of students who ride the bus route.
- Discuss and practice evacuation procedures.
- Maintain good order among students on bus, following district policies regarding disciplining of children and contact transportation director/principal when necessary.
- Adhere to the speed limits and traffic laws.
- Maintain a variety of records as required.
- Maintain the list of students/athletes who are released from riding the bus home and on activity trips.
- Complete mileage logs.
- Stay at the site of activities unless given permission from a supervisor.
- Attend any required in-service training or staff meetings.
- Adhere to District Policies relating to tobacco, drug and alcohol use on premises and duty.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Student Days and/or per Notice of Assignment
- Routes and time are subject to evaluation and change at any time as determined by administration.
- All classified employees will be evaluated on each of, and are subject to the following probationary periods: 30 days following hire, 3 months following hire and then 9 months following hire.
- Salary and benefits as per Board policy
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board policy and procedure for evaluation of classified personnel.
