.
The EA team will meet and greet the party at the front of the Croxteth Hall near to the gift shop and briefly explain about the nature of the visit plus cover Health & Safety issues. With larger school parties the children will be divided into three groups. The individual groups will then be led to the educational areas in the Hall to experience: - ‘WW1 hands on History Timeline’, ‘WW1 machinery, the bombing of London’, and ‘a soldier’s life in the trenches’, every half hour the groups will be rotated. With practical activities in the Hall, Grounds, Hall bedrooms and kitchens, the children will get a realistic experience of the sights and sounds, the hardships and the pleasures of war time life.
Pupils will discover the history of their community, Britain, Europe and the wider world. They will develop a chronological overview that enables them to make connections within and across different periods and societies.
They will investigate Britain’s relationships with the wider world and relate past events to the present day, as they develop their understanding of historical studies, the children will be encouraged to ask and answer important questions, evaluate evidence, identify and analyse different interpretations of the past, and get an understanding of community life during the First World War.

Background Information
Croxteth Hall was once the home of the Earls of Sefton. After the death of the last Earl in 1972 the Hall and its surrounding estate was bequeathed to the City of Liverpool. The 2 acre (0.8 hectares) WalledGarden at Croxteth Hall functioned as a large kitchen garden – rather like a large allotment! The Head Gardener with his under-gardeners was charged with the task of producing an all year round supply of fruit and vegetables for the kitchens of Croxteth Hall.
