P6HX23-5.133 PROCEDURE: AMMUNITION DISPENSING/INVENTORY CONTROL PROCEDURES - CRIMINAL JUSTICE INSTITUTE
The Criminal Justice Institute provides firearms training for the police academy, corrections academy, and in-service training program for criminal justice personnel. This necessitates purchasing, storing, and dispensing of ammunition to the students involved in the firearms training. In that regard, the Criminal Justice Institute will adhere to the procedures outlines below to assure proper inventory control and accountability.
I. Purchase of Ammunition
A) The training coordinator responsible for a particular program will initiate the purchase order request and alert the Firearms Range Officer of the impending shipment of ammunition. The coordinator will also provide the name and dates of the course to the Range Officer.
B) The Range Officer will log the ammunition received in the Firing Range Ammunition Inventory Control Book (FRAICB).
C) Ammunition may be purchased in boxes of fifty (50) rounds to assist with the counting and dispensing of ammunition.
II. Dispensing of Ammunition
A) The Range Officer will be responsible for the dispensing of ammunition to the students.
1) The Range Officer, or designee, will issue to each student the amount of ammunition called for in the lesson plan for that day.
a) The student receiving the ammunition will initial in the FRAICB verifying receipt of the ammunition.
b) The Range Officer, or designee, will also initial in the book by each student's name receiving the ammunition.
c) At the end of class, all ammunition not used will be returned to the Range Officer or designee. This will be logged in the FRAICB and initialed by both the student and Range Officer, or designee.
d) Any additional ammunition issued, (alibis for students, instructors taking extra ammunition on the firing line, etc.) will be logged out and in following the same procedure as above.
e) All ammunition casing that are located after firing and not damaged, will be retained by the Range Officer to be used for reloads.
III. Inventory Control
A) On a daily and weekly basis, the Range Officer will use the daily sign-in sheets to reconcile his overall inventory. This inventory accounting is also recorded and stored in the FRAICB.
B) At any given time the ammunition purchased, minus ammunition used, should equal ammunition inventory on hand.
