Checking out Library Materials
Much of the Library’s collection is in storage while the Library/Media Center undergoes a remodel. Students can still check out books and periodicals from the stacks, but they will not be able to get access to the collection. So, here are the steps for checking print materials out from the library:
1. For books, go to the online catalog at http://oscar.ctc.edu/library and search by title, author or subject.
2. If you search by subject, you can click on the call number to see a whole range of books on the same subject.
3. When you find one or more books that you would like to check out, just print out the record, write your name and student number on the sheet and turn it into the Circulation Desk in Room 5100 (right next to the Bookstore). Students at Northshore Center may fill out request forms at the front desk. You may also place the request ONLINE by choosing the REQUEST button at the top of the record in the online catalog and following the directions. All items requested will be held for three days and must be picked up on the main campus.
4. For periodical articles, first find the correct citation in an index (online or print) write down the author, article title, journal title, volume and publication date. Take this to the Circulation Desk.
5. Requested items will be available for pick up at the following times:
M-F: 9 a.m., 11 a.m., Noon, 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m. 7 p.m. (no 7 p.m. pick up on
Fridays)
Sat/Sun: 1:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m.
Requests can be made up to one half hour prior to the delivery time (eg: 8:30 a.m. for pick-up by 9 a.m., but not 8:40 a.m., etc.)
6. If we don’t own an item, you may request an Interlibrary Loan at the Reference Desk. Please plan ahead if requesting items from another library, as it may take anywhere from three days to several weeks for items to arrive.
